Memphis Grizzlies Star, Cam Spencer, Says He Gets “Kicked Off” The AUX When He Plays Country Music

NBA locker rooms evidently aren’t country-music-friendly spaces. Believe it or not, there are plenty of players in the National Basketball Association that enjoy country music. Jimmy Butler is probably the most recognizable star, and he’s supported the genre publicly on multiple different occasions, Interestingly enough, Butler’s fandom of country music started as a joke, and the more he listened to it in a joking manner… the more he realized he actually liked it. How do we know that? Well, anyone that has a country music album on the way probably loves country music. The fact that he’s put time aside in his busy, professional-athlete schedule to record 2oo songs and counting is a testament to his interest in the genre. Add to that the rumor that he skipped out on a game to go to a Morgan Wallen concert and he’s the “leader in the clubhouse” when it comes to biggest country music fans in the NBA. Memphis Grizzlies star Cam Spencer would like a word though. Spencer joined the team as a late second-round pick, and he has quickly proven himself to be a critical piece of the Tennessee NBA franchise. The sharpshooter averages over 10 points and 5 assists a game, and most importantly, his teammates trust him to deliver big shots. In fact, in a recent interview with ClutchPoints, the Memphis guard defended himself when he was asked why he allegedly had his music privileges taken away: “Might have been because I am a big country music fan. But I don’t think it was me. I’m pretty low on the DJ board. If I play country, I get kicked off pretty quick.” You hate to see it. But it makes sense. Country music just isn’t the go-to genre for NBA locker rooms across the country. We actually got insight into that in November of last year, when New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson complained about the music choice of his teammates. If you haven’t heard the name, Robinson was drafted by New York in 2018, and he’s actually the longest tenured player on the Knicks team now. Considering that, you’d think he’d have some seniority when it comes to the AUX cord in the locker room (yes, I know AUX cords aren’t used anymore and it’s all Bluetooth). However, a recent post on Robinson’s Snapchat/influencer account showed that his teammates were getting first pick on locker room music, and they went with “Where The Hood At” by DMX. That sounds like a decent pre-game song to bump, but Mitchell Robinson would have preferred to listen to some country music… specifically Morgan Wallen: “Here we go with this music again. Morgan Wallen please?” Knicks: DMX Where the Hood at Mitchell Robinson: pic.twitter.com/mPt63FiwmP — New York Basketball (@NBA_NewYork) November 20, 2025 Maybe Mitchell Robinson and Cam Spencer can get together to talk about their love of country music… and support one another as their teammates all hate on it.The post Memphis Grizzlies Star, Cam Spencer, Says He Gets “Kicked Off” The AUX When He Plays Country Music first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
