A former mayor and political candidate in New Jersey has been indicted by a grand jury for allegedly sexually assaulting a child he met online. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday that former Dumont Mayor Andrew LaBruno, 44, was indicted on multiple charges. LaBruno was arrested last year after being accused of drugging and sexually assaulting the child. The sexual assault later took place at the victim’s home in Englewood, according to authorities. In addition to his role as mayor, authorities say he served as police sergeant in Jersey City. He also ran for a seat in the state assembly. LaBruno was indicted on charges of official misconduct, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. The official misconduct charge was added after investigators determined he identified himself as a police officer to prevent his own apprehension.
