Megan Moroney Almost Named Her Forthcoming Album After This Song Title Instead Of ‘Cloud 9’
We are less than 24 hours away from MM3. At midnight on February 20, Megan Moroney will gift fans with her highly anticipated third studio album, Cloud 9. The tracklist, of course, features already-released songs like “6 Months Later” and “Beautiful Things,” as well as collabs with two of her favorite musicians: British pop star Ed Sheeran and country star Kacey Musgraves.
Ahead of the album release, Moroney took a second to share a message with her fans about what they can expect, like a newfound confidence in this chapter of her music. She shared that most of this album was created in the midst of the Am I Okay? Tour and expressed extreme gratitude to her fans for their support and for being an endless source of inspiration.
“Thank y’all for everything, I’m feeling so excited and sooooo grateful. It’s a long way down.”

Touching on some of that newfound confidence, Moroney shared during a press interview with Katie Neal, host of Audacy’s Katie & Company, that she isn’t nervous for fans to hear any songs off the record, and she feels that she said the entire album “with [her] chest,” and it all came from a very authentic place:
“No, no, because I said this whole album with my chest. I’m just like, it is what it is. I feel like…I know I’ve got the best fans in the world, and they make me confident enough to where they’re gonna get behind my songs.
They know that it’s coming from an honest, authentic place, and that just has given my more confidence as a songwriter to not give a crap what people are going to saw about it. I’m excited.”
It sounds like saying this record, with her chest, means divulging juicy secrets about her love life, heartbreak, and more.
The tea seems quite the opposite of this pink, feminine, girly imagery that we have gotten from Cloud 9. As with all of Moroney’s other LPs, this record has a specific color, which her fans fully embrace. But the imagery of Cloud 9 would have looked very different if Moroney had moved forward with the name she initially thought she’d give this album.
During a conversation with SiriusXM’s The Highway, the “6 Months Later” singer revealed another song on the tracklist was a contender for the album’s title.
“Initially, I thought the album was going to be called ‘Medicine.’ It was one of the first songs I wrote where I was like, ‘Oh, I can build a world around that. It’s going to be so much fun.'”
While I am sure that a lot of symbolism could be drawn from a record named Medicine, Cloud 9 feels like a perfect progression in Moroney’s career, highlighting her dreams coming true, falling in love, and more. Moroney shared that her zest for life ended up being the title for the record:
“I just got to a point in my life, it was like a very foreign feeling to feel so happy. Just like an excitement to live, which you know I feel like is rare for a lot of us to just wake up and be like, ‘Wow, today is wonderful.'”
Moroney went on to share that she felt like she was above Cloud 9 in her personal life when she named the record, and was truly the happiest she’d ever been.
“I was just in my career, in my personal life, like I was just, I could see where Cloud 9 was, and I knew that I was way above it.”
I am very excited to hear the next era of Megan Moroney in full—from being a lover girl to the drama and heartache of it all, I am certain this record will clear up some speculations, leave fans with joy, and more. We are in the home stretch until MM3 is here…
