Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Vows To Remove State From WHO Global Network
Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI), who is running for Governor of Wisconsin, said he would remove the state from the World Health Organization’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) if he’s elected.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said during his 2026 State of the State address that he would sign an executive order for the state to join the network.
“Wisconsin’s health data should never be shared with the CCP-corrupted World Health Organization. We don’t take orders from international bureaucrats,” Tiffany said.

More from The Center Square:
The Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network is a collection of states and local health departments that share public health information. The governor’s office said joining the group will give Wisconsin “timely and direct access to global early-warning alerts, outbreak intelligence and data sharing.”
“I’m not a rocket scientist, but I did teach biology in Baraboo. Maybe if we want to make Americans and Wisconsinites ‘healthy’ again, making health care affordable and accessible would be a great place to start. We could also start by trusting the science, public health experts, and medical professionals who have eradicated diseases and found cures and kept us healthy and safe for decades,” the governor added.
Republican candidate Tom Tiffany immediately disagreed.
“So @GovEvers will share Wisconsin’s health data with the Communist China-corrupted World Health Organization. But he won’t allow the USDA to audit our food stamp rolls for fraud?” Tiffany wrote on X. “Talk about misplaced priorities.”
Evers wouldn’t be the only Democratic governor to join the WHO group. Illinois’ JB Pritzker recently signed his state up, as did the governors in California and New York.
“Folks, public health isn’t a partisan issue, and it isn’t up for debate. And real lives are at stake if we fail to listen. It’s why, in the coming weeks, I’ll sign an executive order to have Wisconsin join the World Health Organization’s Global Response Network. We must do what we can to keep our kids, our families, and our communities healthy and safe,” Evers said during his speech, according to WisPolitics.

That's why I'm announcing tonight that Wisconsin will join the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Response Network to keep our kids, our families, and our communities healthy and safe.

WisPolitics noted:
Wisconsin will aid GOARN in its work to coordinate the dispersal of information and resources in response to global public health emergencies. This growing coalition comes amid recent news that, as of January 2026, the U.S. had officially separated from WHO, following President Donald J. Trump’s decision to withdraw last year, undoing nearly a century of collaboration between the U.S. and world leaders on issues of global health and safety.
In addition, to further strengthen Wisconsin’s ability to address public health needs, the state will also be joining a coalition of 15 governors in the Governor’s Public Health Alliance to bring Wisconsin into the fold of the alliance’s work to improve preparedness, coordination, and access to critical health resources nationwide.
