White House Says Spain “Agreed To Cooperate” With U.S. Military, Madrid “Categorically” Denies
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that it’s her understanding that Spain has “agreed to cooperate” with the U.S. military after Madrid would not allow the use of Spanish bases during Operation Epic Fury.
In response, President Trump announced he would cut off all trade with Spain.

"With respect to Spain, I think they heard the president's message yesterday loud and clear. And it's my understanding, over the past several hours, they've agreed to cooperate with the U.S. military," Leavitt said.
"I know that the U.S. military is coordinating with their counterparts in Spain," she continued.
"The president expects all of our European allies, of course, to, cooperate in this long sought after mission," Leavitt added.

However, Spain has rejected the claim.
POLITICO has more:
But Spanish Foreign Minister José Luis Albares rejected that claim.
"I categorically deny this," Albares said in an interview on Spain's Cadena Ser radio network. "Spain's position on the war in the Middle East, on the attack on Iran, on the use of our bases, has not changed."
Pressed over Leavitt's assertion, Albares replied incredulously: "She might be the White House spokesperson, but I'm the foreign minister of Spain!"
The White House claim came hours after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez delivered a televised address emphatically condemning the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran, in which he also affirmed Spain had said “no to war.”
Albares said Madrid's commitment to staying out of "a military operation that is being carried out in violation of international law" is unwavering.
"There is an agreement, a bilateral accord, and outside the framework of that bilateral agreement, there will be no use of Spanish sovereign bases," he insisted, referencing a 1953 agreement with the U.S. that gives Madrid a say over how American forces stationed on its territory are used. "Any operation must be within the framework of the United Nations."

Al Jazeera has more:
On Tuesday, Trump had lambasted Spain over its opposition to the war as “terrible”.
“We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain. We don’t want anything to do with Spain,” the US president said.
But Madrid projected defiance in the face of Washington’s economic threat, reiterating its opposition to the war.
“The world, Europe, and Spain have faced this critical moment before. In 2003, a few irresponsible leaders dragged us into an illegal war in the Middle East that brought nothing but insecurity and pain,” Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez wrote on X on Wednesday.
He added that Spain’s position continues to be to reject war, violations of international law and “the illusion that we can solve the world’s problems with bombs”.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian praised Spain’s stance on Wednesday.
“Spain’s responsible conduct in opposing the Zionist-American coalition’s flagrant human rights violations and military aggression against countries, including Iran, shows that ethics and awakened consciences still exist in the West,” he said in a social media post.
“I commend Spanish officials for their stances.”
Spain has emerged as an outlier in Europe in unambiguously standing against the attack in Iran.
