Iran’s President Apologizes to Gulf Nations Even as Fresh Missiles Rain Down
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a stunning apology on Saturday.
He begged forgiveness from neighboring Gulf states for waves of missile attacks.
But his words rang hollow.
Even as Pezeshkian spoke, Iranian missiles and drones flew toward Qatar and Bahrain.
Air raid sirens blared across the Gulf.
From The Associated Press:
“Iran’s president apologized for attacks on ‘neighboring countries,’ even as its missiles and drones flew toward Gulf Arab states and hard-liners asserted that Tehran’s war strategy wouldn’t budge. The apology came as Iran’s war exploded further late Saturday with pillars of flame rising above an oil storage facility in Tehran after Israeli strikes. It appeared to be the first time a civil industrial facility has been targeted in the war, with state media blaming ‘an attack from the U.S. and the Zionist regime’ at the facility that supplies the capital and neighboring provinces.”
The apology came after Iran killed a Pakistani driver in Dubai.
Falling debris from an intercepted Iranian drone struck his vehicle.
The 23 Marina Tower, an 88-story skyscraper, also took damage.
From The New York Times:
“Masoud Pezeshkian, the Iranian president, had just apologized on state television on Saturday morning for waves of Iranian missile strikes that hit Gulf states since last week, when air-raid sirens blared in Qatar and Bahrain. The contradiction between Pezeshkian’s apology and the continued missile launches highlighted deep divisions within Iran’s leadership about how to prosecute the war against U.S. and Israeli forces. While the president sought to de-escalate regional tensions, hardliners in Tehran’s military command continued pressing attacks on neutral Gulf nations.”
President Trump was not impressed by the apology.
He posted a warning on Truth Social that immediately grabbed global attention.
From Euronews:
“Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian announced on Saturday that the interim leadership council decided and instructed Iran’s armed forces that ‘from now on they should not attack neighbouring countries or fire missiles at them, unless we are attacked from those countries.’ In addition, Pezeshkian apologised to Iran’s neighbours explaining that ‘what happened was that our commanders and our leader lost their lives following the barbaric aggression and our armed forces, the champions that are sacrificing their lives to defend our territorial integrity, fired at will because their commanders were absent.’ Shortly after Pezeshkian’s message, Trump warned that more Iranian officials would become targets.”
Social media reactions showed divided responses to the developing crisis.
Some expressed relief at the possibility of de-escalation.
Finally! After days of missiles raining on Dubai, Doha & Bahrain… Gulf states can breathe a sigh of relief.Iran's President @araghchi Pezeshkian apologizes + order…No more strikes on neighbors unless attacks come from their soil. Others highlighted the ongoing military tensions and economic impacts.
Al-Udeid just learned the Gulf’s geometry is no longer American-centric, Tehran vaulted 6-10 ballistic rounds across 900 km of littoral airspace, lighting up Doha’s Patriot grid and forcing Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi ATC to slam their doors shut. Trump’s Truth Social post made his position crystal clear.
“Today Iran will be hit very hard! Under serious consideration for complete destruction and certain death, because of Iran’s bad behavior, are areas and groups of people that were not considered for targeting up until this moment in time.”
Meanwhile, Trump honored fallen American heroes at Dover Air Force Base.
Six U.S. service members died in Operation Epic Fury.
Their bodies returned home Saturday.
The president joined grieving families for the dignified transfer.
Iran’s foreign minister tried to walk back the apology.
He warned Trump had misinterpreted the president’s words.
The hardliners in Tehran are not backing down.
They vow to keep fighting.
The war enters its eighth day with no end in sight.
