The first listen of “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay.” Carly Pearce and Riley Green sent the internet into a frenzy when Carly posted a teaser of what their forthcoming duet, where they got very up close and personal with each other, as Green stared into Pearce’s eyes before the two lean in to each other. View this post on Instagram Considering how there are pretty much constantly rumors about Riley’s dating life, this of course quickly caught the attention of fans, and I’m sure the rumors about this one will be flying too, but these two are labelmates and aren’t dating (Carly also has a boyfriend), but it’s safe to say that the internet detectives will be out in full force regardless stirring up every rumor imaginable. And usually that’s kind of the point of this sort of thing… I mean, the teasers are super steamy and they want people to talk about it, and I’m happy to oblige because even the very short teaser of the duet Carly shared sounded very interesting and I can’t wait to hear it. Obviously, Riley has a great track records with his female duets, and of course the two hits he did with Ella Langley come to mind first in “you look like you love me” and “Don’t Mind If I Do,” and I don’t see why this one would be any different in terms of the quality of the song because Carly is also an incredibly talented artist who consistently puts out some of the best stuff in mainstream Nashville. And they recently gave some radio people a taste of the new song, when they performed a stripped back acoustic rendition, where Carly introduced Riley by saying she’s gotten to perform with him several times over the last few years, and she “always felt that connection” she looks for when thinking about someone to collaborate with: “I’ve gotten to sing with this person several times over the last few years, and I just felt that connection that I aways look for when I am thinking about a collaborator. I think this is a really special song, it’s coming out March 13th. It’s called ‘If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay.'” From the lyrics in the short clip, it sounds like this song is about two lovers who know this relationship isn’t going to work in the long run, but they can’t seem to let go long enough to start the moving on process. It’s unclear who the writers are, though I wouldn’t be surprised to see either or both of their names on the credits once we get all the details when it’s released later this week. “If I Don’t Leave I’m Gonna Stay” will be out on streaming platforms everywhere next Friday, March 13th, and there’s already a lot of buzz around it, as you can imagine, and I love a good duet so I’m excited to hear the full song.
