From War to Holy War

President Trump declared that “we’ve won” the war against Iran on Wednesday but no one told Iran. According to reports, Iran has set at least two ships up in flames for attempting to cross through the Strait of Hormuz. Talk about “testing the waters“! Since President Trump cannot will oil through the shipping route, the White House announced that it will release “400 million barrels of oil from various national petroleum reserves.” That means that the U.S. will dip into its emergency supply because it is trying to handle this very predictable consequence of the war it started. Speaking of how it all started, the New York Times reports that the first strike on the girls’ school in Tehran was in fact the fault of the U.S. military. They called it a “targeting mistake.” “Striking a school full of children is sure to be recorded as one of the most devastating single military errors in recent decades. Iranian officials have said the death toll was at least 175 people, most of them children,” according to the Times. When asked about this, President Trump said he didn’t know about it. This is implausible. This was the strike that launched the war. It was the opening salvo. He surely knows about it. While the world focuses on the war in Iran, Arab leaders are warning that Israel has occupied and closed off the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Last week, Israel closed the mosque under the pretense of dangers from Iranian missiles. This is a very important place of worship for Muslims, even more so during Ramadan. A statement from several leaders demands that Israel “immediately cease the closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque, remove access restrictions to the Old City of Jerusalem, and refrain from obstructing Muslim worshippers’ access to the mosque.” Could this be related to Jewish fundamentalists’ intentions to build the Third Temple on that same spot? Which would escalate this horrific global war into a religious war? Because that would escalate this horrific global war into an outright religious war that clearly nobody has won.
