Dolly Parton Talks About Meeting Late Husband Carl Dean Outside The Pearly Gates

Dolly Parton has admittedly been struggling since losing her husband of 58 years, Carl Dean, last March. But she takes comfort in knowing she’ll see him again. The 80-year-old icon stepped out for her first public appearance in months to celebrate Dollywood’s 41st anniversary. While there, she spoke to the crowd and joked about a recent rumor flying around about a supposed romance. “There’s a lot of rumors going around, but I did not marry Sylvester Stallone,” she laughed. “Did you see that one? And I’m not dating anybody. I’m not married. I don’t think I’ll ever be married but once.” Dolly Parton and Carl Dean met outside a laundry mat the day Dolly moved to Nashville, TN, from Sevierville, TN. They were inseparable from that day forward and lived a true love story. The couple said “I do” after two years of dating on May 30, 1966, when she was 20 and he was 23. And Dolly doesn’t believe Carl Dean would be supportive if she were. “I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me on the other side. If I should show up at the pearly gates with somebody else, he would not like that.” She said. “He’d be saying, ‘Who’s that little pisser? You leave him outside the gates. And if the Lord wants him in, He’ll bring him. You get on in here with me.” Dolly Parton is Focused on Her Health Following Recent Health Concerns Dolly Parton also admitted that Carl Dean’s death was both emotionally and physically difficult for her, saying, “I just kind of got worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on.” Mourning her husband and dealing with the stress of life led to health issues that caused her to postpone some scheduled appearances. Dolly assured fans that she’s focused on healing. “I’ve not been touring, as you know,” she continued. “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them.” “I just got myself kind of where I needed to build myself back up spiritually, emotionally, and physically,” she also noted. “But all is good. It didn’t slow me down.” This story’s featured image is by Jason Kempin/Getty Images.
