Vince Gill Says He “Fully Supports” Inducting Taylor Swift Into The Country Music Hall Of Fame
Will Taylor Swift get into the Country Music Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility?
The Hall of Fame is announcing their 2026 class of inductees tomorrow morning, and all eyes are on whether the “Shake It Off” singer will be a member of this year’s class. This is the first year that Swift will be eligible for induction in the Modern Era artist category, for which an artist becomes eligible 20 years after they “first achieved national prominence.”
It’s been 20 years since Swift released her self-titled debut album, back when she was a country artist, which featured songs like “Picture To Burn,” “Teardrops On My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and her debut single “Tim McGraw.”
Of course it’s far from certain that Swift will be this year’s inductee in her category. There are quite a few deserving artists who are still waiting on the call from the Hall of Fame, including names like Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt, Clint Black, Martina McBride, Alison Krauss, and many, many more. And it would no doubt be controversial if Swift were to get in before some of these legends who have spent their entire career in country music, especially given the fact that Taylor switched to pop music early in her career.
There’s also the issue of her age: Swift is only 36 years old, meaning there’s still plenty of time to induct her into the Hall of Fame if they want to. In fact, if she gets in this year, Taylor would be the youngest artist EVER inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, surpassing Johnny Cash, who was 48 years old when he was inducted, and Vince Gill, who was honored at the age of 50.
But Vince Gill doesn’t have any problem with Taylor Swift beating his record – or being inducted into the Hall of Fame in general.
During a conversation with Rolling Stone, the country music legend had nothing but praise for the pop star:
“I think they’ll put her in there. Why wouldn’t you? … I’m crazy about her, so I’d fully support that.”
Vince also pointed out that Taylor is quite possibly the single largest donor to the Hall of Fame in the museum’s history, so I’m sure that won’t hurt her chances…
As for beating him out as one of the youngest members of the Hall of Fame, Vince says that he doesn’t have a problem with that either – and gave one more reason for supporting her induction:
“She’s cuter, too.”
I dunno, I have a feeling there are a lot of women around Vince’s age who would disagree… (sorry, Amy Grant).
I guess we’ll have to see whether or not Swift is among the inductees named tomorrow morning. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the CMA YouTube page at 10 AM central and is being hosted by Marty Stuart – which may be a sign that one of his fellow ’80s/’90s country artists (like Dwight Yoakam, Travis Tritt or Clint Black) could be the nominee.
We’ll have to see. But if I were a betting man, I would put big money on Taylor Swift getting into the Hall of Fame at some point – whether that’s this year or not.
