“About To Announce” Congressional Run – Rising Democrat Politician Found Dead Inside Home

A Democrat politician in South Florida was found dead inside her home on Wednesday. Police officers found Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen, also a vice chair of the Florida Democratic Party, around 10 a.m. during a welfare check. Bowen’s death is being investigated as a “domestic violence incident.” “Reports indicated that her husband was taken into custody Wednesday, though officials have not said whether he will face charges,” WFLA stated. “I’ve just gotten word that Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer Bowen (@NMetayerBowen) has been shot and killed. Her husband, Stephen, is a suspect and is now in custody after initially fleeing to Plantation,” Florida Politics reporter Jesse Scheckner wrote. More on this as it develops. — Jesse Scheckner (@JesseScheckner) April 1, 2026 Fox News shared further: The chief said there were no other suspects being sought. Bowen was first elected to the Coral Springs City Commission in 2020 and was re-elected in 2024. She was appointed by the commission last November to serve a second, one-year term as vice mayor, according to her bio on the city’s website. Before being elected to the commission, Bowen worked as an environmental scientist who formerly served on the Broward County Soil and Water Conservation District, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. Bowen’s family confirmed her death on her social media accounts. “Throughout her years in public office, she led with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose,” the family’s statement said. “I’m in shock. I was just with her on Saturday. She just buried her brother. She was about to announce she was running for Congress. Nancy was one of the nicest people I worked with. Always fighting for her community, always pushing to help. She had such a future. This is terrible,” Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) said. I’m in shock. I was just with her on Saturday. Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried released a statement following news of Bowen’s death, writing that “she loved her community deeply and believed, with every fiber of her being, that a better and more equitable future was possible for all of us.” “Her memory will forever be a blessing to me, to our party, and to every person whose life she touched,” Fried said. “My heart, my prayers, and the full love of the Florida Democratic Party are with her family and the people of Coral Springs as they face this unimaginable, devastating loss.” Bowen’s family described her as “a sister, a daughter, and a friend whose warmth and laughter filled every room” in a statement posted to Instagram Wednesday “Her legacy will live on not only in the policies she helped shape, but in the countless lives she touched,” the family wrote, in part. “We ask for privacy as our family grieves, and we thank everyone for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.” Watch additional coverage below:
