Metallurgical Testing of the Bullet That Killed Charlie Kirk Is Coming

Charlie Kirk’s killer, Tyler Robinson, has attorneys looking for that Hail Mary pass in releasing information about not having a conclusive match of the bullet that pierced Charlie’s body to the gun. However, the testing isn’t complete, and a match still could be found. If not, the additional evidence is way too powerful to ignore. In my humble opinion, Robinson’s attorneys know about all the confusion and conspiracy theories about the bullet, so they made sure their report played on that. Two law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News that the reason the ATF was unable to match the bullet to the rifle is that when the bullet impacted Kirk’s body, it hit bone and broke on impact. The forensic pathologist pulled fragments out of Kirk’s body, not an intact bullet. The sources said it is impossible to do ballistics analysis on a bullet fragment. The testing did positively confirm that the spent shell casing found at the scene matched the suspected murder weapon. “That’s a pretty significant piece of evidence for the prosecution,” Pack said. “And pretty damning for the defense. The Bullet Robinson’s attorneys, in recent court filings, asked for the hearing to be delayed so they have more time to review all the material and a bullet analysis that could contribute to their client’s defense. According to court documents, the FBI is “in the process” of conducting a second bullet analysis and another analysis of the lead used to make the bullet. Reports indicate that Robinson’s lawyers will attempt to block the metallurgical testing results. They might find DNA or other matches to the rounds. That would be as good, possibly better evidence. While the ATF report has been kept private, Robinson’s lawyers have cited snippets in other public filings indicating that the analysis was inconclusive. They said in their motion that they may try to use the bullet analysis to clear Robinson of blame during the preliminary hearing, in which prosecutors will seek to show they have enough evidence against him to proceed to trial. That is desperation because they don’t have a case. There is so much evidence. According to prosecutors, DNA consistent with Robinson’s was found on the rifle’s trigger, the fired cartridge casing, and two unfired cartridges. Defense lawyers note that forensic reports indicate multiple people’s DNA was found on some items, which they say requires a more complex analysis. Robinson reportedly texted his romantic partner that he killed Kirk because he had “had enough of his hatred,” according to prosecutors. What it means Greg Rogers, a former FBI agent, clarified that the ATF report could show that the casing testing is inconclusive, “which just means that they can’t say with 100% certainty that the bullet came from that rifle’s barrel.” According to Rogers, the condition of the bullet, if in fragments, could make it impossible to test conclusively one way or the other. In his experience, officials will likely conduct more testing. “The further testing that’s being done now, there will be metallurgical testing to determine if the metals found in those fragments…match the other rounds that were in the magazine that was still in Tyler Robinson’s rifle,” He added. “So, there’s a whole lot more testing to be done.” Rogers continued that an inconclusive result isn’t necessarily going to completely change the case. He said, “It’s not at all uncommon. I worked a number of murder cases throughout my career where damaged bullets couldn’t be matched by an expert to a specific weapon. All that means is the expert can’t get on the stand and, under oath, say, ‘I can assure 100% that the bullet came out of that particular weapon.’ ” The trial will be open to the public, despite Robinson’s attorneys’ objections. The lawyers want to keep parts of the trial secret, away from the cameras. The judge has denied the motion.
