DEVELOPING: Multiple Injuries Reported After Vehicle PLOWS Into Louisiana Parade Crowd
A vehicle slammed into a Lao New Year celebration in New Iberia, leaving as many as 20 individuals hurt.
Authorities confirmed that the driver, whose identity has not been released, has been taken into custody.
According to early findings shared by the local sheriff, the driver was believed to be under the influence and there is no indication at this stage that the act was deliberate.
Multiple victims sustained serious injuries in the incident. Emergency responders from Acadian Ambulance reported transporting 11 people by ambulance, while two others required air evacuation.

Several people were injured when a car struck revelers at a parade celebrating the Lao New Year in Louisiana, officials said.
The car struck “multiple pedestrians” Saturday afternoon at the corner of Savannakhet and Melancon Road in New Iberia, the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office told NBC News.
A Louisiana Lao New Year event celebrating the Buddhist new year was underway at the time.
“Several individuals sustained injuries, some of which are believed to be serious,” the sheriff’s office said.
The driver is in custody, the sheriff’s office said, without disclosing their name.
“Sharon and I are praying for all those affected, and are grateful for the first responders who have responded to the scene,” Governor Landry said.
