Pope Leo XIV may be the leader of the Catholic Church and one whom millions of people turn to for guidance, but we can’t forget where he came from. Born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, Illinois, he grew up a huge sports fan. Leo loves the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears and proudly wears sports memorabilia from his hometown. Chicago Bulls play-by-play announcer Chuck Swirsky gifted Pope Leo a personalized basketball jersey, solidifying Pope Leo as property of Chicago. One of the team’s signature moves is spinning a basketball on their finger, and during a visit to the Vatican, Pope Leo gave the move a try. TMZ shared a video of the special moment, and Leo looked like he was truly having a ball with a taste of the USA with him. “Pope Leo XIV remembers the good old days of his hometown Chicago Bulls and he’s clearly got some skills with the rock,” the caption reads. Seeing Pope Leo with the basketball legends made many people happy. “This proves how special the Harlem Globetrotters really are,” someone commented.
