The ex-partner of a Florida mayor was found deceased in an apparent suicide. Daniel Curran, 35, was found dead outside of an apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday morning. Curran was briefly engaged to Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, a Democrat, last year. The Democratic mayor is 72 years old. But in September, he suddenly filed for a domestic violence injunction against Curran. The injunction was set to expire on Dec. 3, but Curran allegedly violated it and showed up at Trantalis’ home on Nov. 1. Curran was insistent on reconnecting and a brawl quickly broke out between the pair. Curran allegedly shoved the mayor, who tried to fight back before being dragged to the ground. The former flame allegedly hauled Trantalis 15 feet across the street — causing the mayor to suffer various injuries to his wrist, leg and knee. Curran was arrested four days later after he returned to Trantalis’ home. Fort Lauderdale police said they received a call for a suicide at a high-rise building, CBS News noted. “The police’s preliminary information revealed that Curran jumped from the 12th-floor balcony of the building,” the outlet stated. According to his arrest report, he was charged last year with battery on a person 65 years of age or older and violating an injunction for protection against domestic violence. Investigators said officers saw Curran in Trantalis’ driveway despite there being an active protection order in place that barred him from approaching the mayor. The two had been in a relationship and lived together since March 2025, according to the affidavit.
