Shelby Stone Makes Her Presence Known With Red Dirt Rock & Roll Debut, ‘Silveryear’
Shelby Stone, ladies and gentlemen.
For most country music fans out there, I imagine this could be the first you’re hearing of Stone, the red dirt up-and-comer hailing from Decatur, TX, north of Fort Worth. If you follow the red dirt scene more closely, though, you’ve at least seen her name beneath Cross Canadian Ragweed and Turnpike Troubadours on their Boys From Oklahoma bill, or you’ve probably noticed her in opening slots for the scene’s top acts and climbing up on festival line-ups.
But if you really know the red dirt scene, then Shelby Stone isn’t a new name at all for you. It seems like the scene’s most prominent artists, like Ragweed’s Cody Canada in particular, have been promoting her name for quite some time now, and Texas music veteran Dalton Domino has taken her under his wing and been an instrumental member of her team thus far.
Together, they began the rollout of the her debut record with the lead single release of “Each Other” way back in November 2023, and last summer, the album was released for purchase-only on Bandcamp last summer.
Now, though, her debut album Silveryear is finally available in its entirety for streaming, giving the masses the opportunity to get acquainted with the rising star and her music. A fantastic songwriter in her own right, Stone has surrounded herself with several other killer lyricists who all contribute to these songs, but it’s her vocals and sound that really shine in this debut record.
Finding herself thriving on the rock and roll side of red dirt instead of as a soft-spoken and sensitive songwriter, Silveryear punches you in the mouth from the moment the first track gets going, and Stone doesn’t let up until the last note of the 17-track project.
Silveryear isn’t just a debut record – it’s the moment that Shelby Stone arrives as a serious force on the rock-leaning edge of Red Dirt. This isn’t a young artist still searching for her sound or trying to figure it out on the fly. It’s the sound of a fully formed artist kicking the door wide open. A bonafide star in the making finally letting the rest of the world in on something she and her circle have known for a while now: Shelby Stone isn’t just coming up, she’s already here. And Silveryear is proof.
Give a listen to a few of my early favorites:
“Killing Time”
“Fight Or Flight”
“Fire Escape”
“All I Ever Wanted”
Fresh off of a headlining gig at the legendary Billy Bob’s Texas to celebrate the album release, Stone is on fire right now, and plans to keep her foot on the gas with plenty of shows this morning, including some opening for Wyatt Flores and Robert Earl Keen.
