It just means more. It may not be football season, but hating your SEC rival is a 365-day a year sport. And this weekend, diehard Tennessee Volunteers fan Morgan Wallen will be crossing enemy lines when he takes the stage at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Morgan is set to play several college stadiums on his massive Still the Problem Tour this year, but none that will get more attention than his show at the home of the Alabama Crimson Tide, which is one of the Tennessee Volunteers’ longest-standing rivalries in the SEC. In fact, Morgan even references the rivalry in his song “Tennessee Fan,” from his 2023 One Thing At a Time album, which finds Morgan winning the heart of an Alabama fan and converting her to the Volunteers. “Guess the joke’s on Alabama ‘Cause they lost big this time I got the number one pick, blonde hair, red lips Brought her over to the other side A little deep south Delta Gamma Done found a Smokey Mountain man She was raised Roll Tide ’till the day she died But ever since that night, she’s been a Tennessee fan” Well you can imagine how Tennessee fans feel about seeing one of their own play a show at their rival’s stadium. I like Morgan but I know facts he is a volunteer fan so no thanks to him wearing the best jersey ever. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!” “He’s a Vols fan and y’all acting like he is part of the Bama team…send him back to play at Neyland.” This is why I love the SEC. I don’t have a dog in the fight, other than hating Alabama like everybody else, but their rivalries and hatred for each other are unmatched. It’s also going to be interesting to see who Morgan gets to walk out with him at the show on Saturday. Many have already suggested Nick Saban, though I have a hard time seeing that happening. But could you imagine the greatest coach of all time walking out beside a fan of a rival school with a couple of his championship trophies? Would be electric. If I had to guess, I’m going to say that Morgan won’t be wearing that Crimson Tide jersey on stage any time soon. But man, could you imagine the meltdown from Tennessee fans if he did? Or even more hilarious, imagine the meltdown from ‘Bama fans if he came out in a Vols jersey? I can’t wait to see how he handles his trip to enemy territory this weekend.
