The Wholesome Reason Luke Combs Won’t Be On A Taylor Sheridan Show Any Time Soon
I’d take that as a no.
These days, it seems as if Taylor Sheridan simply never sleeps. After catching lightning in a bottle with Yellowstone back in 2018, he expanded the franchise tenfold with multiple spinoff series, including 1883 and 1923, as well as The Madison, Marshalls and The Dutton Ranch. Of course, you can’t forget about Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, which has been another smash hit for Sheridan as well and even broke Paramount+’s viewership record upon season two’s finale back in January.
From a country music perspective, both Yellowstone and Landman have made a massive impact one some of the best alternative artists in the genre today. Outside of the few mainstream acts, Yellowstone‘s soundtrack, in many ways, serves as a crash course on some of the biggest names in the independent/alt. country scene. In turn, it exposed many to what many (myself included) turn to when asked why country music is at its best place in history and introduced them to a completely different world that exists outside of the Top 40 on country radio. Dubbed (by us) as the Yellowstone Effect, there is data-driven proof that some artists saw MASSIVE exposure thanks to the show.
Since Yellowstone, however, it hasn’t just been about the music featured on Sheridan shows for various country artists. Famously, Lainey Wilson got a major career boost when she appeared across multiple episodes on season five of the show in a full-fledged acting role. Following in her footsteps, recently, Riley Green made his acting debut on Marshals earlier in the month, being slated to appear in four episodes this season.
With Wilson and Green appearing in multiple Sheridan shows, other acts like Carter Faith getting casted in the upcoming Netflix film, Heartland, and Ella Langley expressing interest in starring in a horror film in the near future, it seems like country artists venturing into acting is becoming a new trend as of late.
Thanks to the trend, at the Time100 Gala this past Thursday, Luke Combs was asked by Us Weekly if he’d be interested in getting into acting any time soon.
On the topic of Sheridan shows in particular, Combs would note that he would be open to a brief cameo if he was playing himself, much in the vein of Zach Bryan’s appearance on season five of Yellowstone where he appeared and performed multiple tracks from Summertime Blues at a fair attended by the Dutton Family.
“If they just want me to play me, then great. I’m in.”
On the topic of full-fledged acting in a scripted role, the “Hurricane” singer would say he’s hesitant, joking that he has a face for radio.
“I don’t know if I’m a TV guy. I’ve got a face for radio. I’ve been lucky for that. But I don’t know.”
But at the crux of the matter, and the real, rather wholesome reason he wouldn’t be up for a big acting role is that Combs’ focus right now is simply balancing life between music and his family, which just got busier with the birth of his third son, Chet Wiley, back in February.
“I just try to have time for my wife and my kids and not over commit myself to things that maybe I don’t feel like I’m great at. Or maybe I would be good at it. I don’t know. I just got so much going on with the music stuff. I want to give everything I have to that because I have such a big team and so many people that depend on me to make music and play shows and go out and do things for people. From employees to fans, I want to give everything I can to that.”
I can’t say I blame Combs at all. While I’m sure fans would love to see him make an appearance across any of the fan-favorite Sheridan shows, I think it goes without saying that family and his music career takes a MUCH higher priority than attempting to kickstart an acting career.
Before you go, fire up his most recent #1 hit, “Sleepless in a Hotel Room.”
