Big Loud CEO Praises Morgan Wallen For Not Letting Success Go To His Head: “Hasn’t Had Any Of Those Moments”

Would be easy to tune everybody else out when you’re the biggest artist in country music. Morgan Wallen released his debut album, If I Know Me, back in 2018, but it was his 2021 Dangerous: The Double Album that really turned him into a superstar – and he hasn’t looked back since. With the exception of 2024 when he was briefly dethroned by Beyoncé’s entry into country music, Morgan has had the top-selling album of the year since 2021, and he currently holds the record for the artist with the most total weeks at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart with an insane 230 weeks. (Dangerous also holds the record for an individual album with 97 weeks at #1). At a time when other artists are canceling tours due to low ticket sales, Morgan is also currently on his massive Still the Problem stadium tour and packing in crowds for two nights in each city. Just absolute domination, whether you like him or not. So most people would probably understand if all the success had gone to Morgan’s head, and convinced him that he knows better than anybody what he needs to do to stay on top. But according to the CEO of his record label, that’s not the case at all. Seth England, co-founder and head of Big Loud Records, recently joined Billboard’s On the Record podcast, where he pulled back the curtain quite a bit on what goes into the creative process behind releasing an album. And he credited Morgan with continuing to value input from others in the studio and not letting his success shut out opinions from others: “The artist has to want that collaboration and that teamwork, if you will. Ultimately he’s going to make the final call, but man, he’s so good. Even to this day, like the moments you hear about other artists, ‘Oh, they don’t listen in the studio anymore. They’re not willing to collaborate.’ He hasn’t had any of those moments. Not one. ‘What are you talking about? I just played 60,000 tickets in Tuscaloosa, I think I know what my song…’ He’s never once said that. Not even close.” In fact, England says that Morgan’s success has only made him more careful about ensuring that he’s making the right decisions in his music: “More so he’ll ask like, ‘We haven’t lost it have we?’ Talking about being sharp and being great instead of good. And I know that sounds cheesy, but there is a difference. And he knows there’s a difference.” Morgan gets a bad reputation sometimes for some of his “off-the-field” antics, and to be clear some of the criticism has been deserved. But you don’t luck into getting where he is, and you don’t get there without hard work and surrounding yourself with the right people. It sounds like Morgan hasn’t lost sight of that, even with all he’s been through (and in some cases put himself through) and all the success that he’s had. And personally, I find that pretty great to hear. Morgan’s recently been working on his next album, confirming that he’ll be dropping (at least teasers of) new music soon, and sharing photos of himself in the studio: View this post on Instagram And of course he also recently dropped a new song with Ella Langley called “I Can’t Love You Anymore” which is already a smash hit (like everything those two touch these days). He (understandably) keeps to himself a lot these days, choosing to keep his private life out of the spotlight and staying off social media for the most part, but it sounds like he’s still got a lot of people around him who he trusts and listens to when it comes to making music.
