President Trump Reacts To “Huge Win” For Republicans In Redistricting Battle
President Trump said the Virginia Supreme Court’s ruling to strike down a ballot measure passed last month that would have enabled Democrats to pass a more favorable congressional map was a “huge win” for the Republican Party.

"Huge win for the Republican Party, and America, in Virginia. The Virginia Supreme Court has just struck down the Democrats’ horrible gerrymander," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"The Virginia Supreme Court has affirmed what we believed from the beginning — the hastily drawn egregious gerrymander was unconstitutional. This ruling is a victory for democracy and ensures Virginians have fair representation in Congress," House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) commented.

CNBC shared further:
The court ruled that the state proposed a constitutional amendment to allow partisan gerrymandering in an “unprecedented manner.”
“This violation irreparably undermines the integrity of the resulting referendum vote and renders it null and void,” Justice D. Arthur Kelsey wrote in the majority opinion.
The decision gives Republicans a decisive edge in the redistricting wars and could nullify Democrats’ advantage going into the 2026 midterm elections. Without Virginia’s redraw, redistricting efforts in the last year could give Republicans as much as a 12-seat edge over Democrats, according to an analysis by Issue One, a bipartisan group that seeks to reduce the influence of money in politics.
Virginia’s congressional delegation consists of 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans.
The congressional map Democrats attempted to pass would have created a likely 10-1 advantage.
Republicans gained an extra boost in the redistricting battle after a consequential Supreme Court decision to strike down a provision of the Voting Rights Act requiring majority-minority House districts.

Democrats are now eight seats behind Republicans in the national battle to redraw US House maps state by state. And the GOP could make further gains as Southern states reopen their maps following a US Supreme Court ruling that gutted a key provision of the Voting Rights Act.
“We’re exploring all options, legislative, in the state Supreme Court, and as it relates to federal court based on an unprecedented decision to overturn the will of more than 3 million Virginia voters,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told CNN Friday.
Jeffries, who pushed for the referendum, argued Friday’s ruling made clear Democratic-led states had to ramp up gerrymandering, particularly ahead of the 2028 election, and set aside efforts to draw nonpartisan maps.
“We need one national standard to ensure there’s a free and fair election,” Jeffries said. “The days of Democrats unilaterally disarming are over.”
Virginians for Fair Elections, the leading group backing the redistricting referendum, called the impact of the ruling a “deeply troubling moment for Virginia, the nation, and our entire democracy.”
“This fight is not over,” the group said in a statement. “Because at its core, this is bigger than one election — it’s about whether voters decide our democracy, or whether that power can be taken away after the votes are cast.”
