Syd Shelton — West Belfast 1979
In West Belfast 1979, Syd Shelton documents the Catholic communities of West Belfast during the height of The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
“I went to West Belfast because I wanted to photograph the humanity of the people who were vilified in England amidst ‘The Troubles’. Other photographers were doing amazing coverage of ’The Troubles’ but I was looking with a different eye. What I found was almost autobiographical as I felt transported back to the streets I was brought up in the north of England 30 years earlier.”
