Another Project From Charley Crockett Has Disappeared…

Another recently released project from the “Son of Davy” is no longer available. It’s been an interesting couple of months for Charley Crockett and his fans, and most of the drama has revolved around surprise drops from the country crooner. First, there was the album, Clovis, that caught a lot of people off guard when it was released at the end of April. Why? Because only three weeks earlier, Crockett had released his highly anticipated Age of the Ram. It’s become clear that he followed that up with Clovis because he was ready to announce that he was an independent artist once more. While it was available (more on that in a second), I wrote something up saying it could be the most important project of Charley’s career. Then on May 3, Crockett released a documentary titled A Cowboy In London on YouTube. It first premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival back in early February. Before its official premiere, the country music artist said the Jared Christopher-directed documentary would be an honest and vulnerable look at his career, and explore the cost of being a touring artist year after year. Now, both of those projects are unavailable to access. It was May 6 when Clovis started to go dark on streaming services, which means the 14-track album was only available to fans for around a week. As of May 21, it’s still no longer available, and Crockett hasn’t provided any additional updates about when it could return. One could assume that there’s some sort of legal tie up with Island Records in regards to Clovis being released so close to Age of the Ram (especially since Crockett used the song “I Fought The Law” to update his fans in a now deleted Instagram post). If you go search for A Cowboy In London on YouTube, you’ll find that it’s no longer available online either. The video has been set to private, so it appears that the documentary that Crockett tried to surprise release to his fans met a similar, hopefully-temporary demise to his Clovis record. As to why this is all happening, there’s been a lot of speculation about some kind of language in Charley’s contract with Island Records that would prevent him from releasing new music – or maybe even a documentary – within a certain timeframe after his final release with the label. That being said, the documentary hang-up could be something entirely different. Whatever the case might be, it’s a real shame that Crockett’s fans can no longer access the two works of art he’s provided… and then seemingly been forced to rip away. If the contract that Charley signed with Island Record does require time in between projects, it’s probably not all that long, and it’s also unclear if Charley was even aware of it. But that would make sense as to why the surprise drop was available… until it wasn’t. Here’s to hoping Charley Crockett figures out whatever situation he’s in and get’s Clovis and A Cowboy In London back into the hands of the fans sooner rather than later. I’d imagine that the country singer is now trying to make sure that whatever he rolls out next can stay released… the last thing he would want to do is give his fans release-whiplash again. The post Another Project From Charley Crockett Has Disappeared… first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
