Zach Top Says A New Album Will Be Coming The “First Or Second Quarter” Of 2027
Let the countdown begin.
Simply put, there’s no one doing it quite as well as Zach Top these days. Though there are plenty of other stellar artists keeping the traditional scene alive, such as Jake Worthington, Charley Crockett and more, the Washington native has launched himself into the stratosphere as of late.
Of course, this was highlighted on a national scale the past few months when he not only took home Best New Artist at the CMA Awards in November, which he accepted with a Coors Banquet in hand, but also when he scored his first-career Grammy earlier this month. In turn, Top became the first-ever winner of the brand-new Best Traditional Country Album category, winning it with his sophomore album, Ain’t In It For My Health.
Keeping the momentum going, the “South of Sanity” singer would snag not one but five nominations at last week’s 61st annual ACM Awards. In addition to scoring his first-career Male Artist of the Year nod, the Washington native would also score nominations for Album of the Year (Ain’t In It For My Health) and Single and Song of the Year (“I Never Lie”). Unfortunately, he would leave empty-handed, running into the buzz saw that was Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” for Single and Song of the Year and dropping the other two to Cody Johnson and Parker McCollum. He would, however, deliver a stellar performance of “Honky Tonk Till It Hurts.”
Fresh off his ACM performance, the Washington native would make an appearance on the Zach Sang Show. Before wrapping up the episode, which saw Top discuss everything from growing up home-schooled, his unique path in Nashville and his aforementioned Grammy win, he was asked when he’s planning on releasing his highly anticipated junior album.
Prefacing the timeframe, Top would explain that he’s been actively working on the record since January. Noting that the insane touring schedule and quick rise to the top of the genre limited his time to write over the past two years, he’d explain that this was the first time he had had in quite a while to sit down and truly focus on new music.
“Yeah, always. We spent a bunch of January and February writing, stacking up stuff. We put out the first record in spring of ’24 and then just got hot and heavy on the road. [I] basically had not had time to write in two years basically — stuff here and there.
Its a different headspace for me. When I’m on the road doing the show thing, that’s where my heads at. It took being off the road for two months to reconfigure my mindset to get back into that writing mode, so we spent a bunch of January and February doing that.”
Finally, he’d give a rough estimate of early 2027 for album #3’s release date:
“Hopefully, sometime in [the] first or second quarter of ’27 I got a new record coming.”
Though it’s going to be tough to follow up the likes of Cold Beer & Country Music and Ain’t In It For My Health, if there’s anyone who can do it, it’s definitely Zach Top. Here’s to hoping the “I Never Lie” singer will give us a preview with a single drop or two at some point this year.
