ABC, CBS Show Strange New Concern for Presidential Health
There was once upon a time in the not-distant past where questioning the president’s health and fitness got you called an ageist, conspiracy theorist, or cheapfakes disseminator. Not anymore. With Joe Biden out of The White House and Donald Trump back in, there is suddenly a Strange New Concern for presidential health.
Watch as ABC’s Rachel Scott maxes out on her mentions of President Trump’s various maladies:

RACHEL SCOTT: Tonight- President Trump leaving Walter Reed Medical Center after a three hour visit, his third in the last 13 months, declaring himself in good health. The White House says he underwent routine annual dental and medical assessments as part of his regular preventative health care.
President Trump, who will turn 80 in June, writing on social media: “everything checked out perfectly.” But tonight, no further details from the president's doctor. It comes amid questions about the president's health. Photos showing bruising on his hands, which he has been covering with makeup. The White House has said it's from frequent hand shaking and the use of aspirin. President Trump has also been spotted with swollen legs, which the president's doctor said is a result of chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition. Earlier this year, the president revealed he received a CT scan in October after The White House initially said it was an MRI. The president's doctor said the imaging was preventative and his cardiovascular system shows excellent health.
Correspondent Rachel Scott then did about a minute or so on Iran before circling back to President Trump’s physical. Held at Walter Reed. And did you know that Trump is about to turn 80?
When you add David Muir’s introduction/brief, that totals four mentions of the physical within a two-minute report plus a full rundown of Trump’s various maladies. CBS ran a similar report built upon similar narratives, but exercised far greater discretion so as not to appear too ham-handed. Here is that report in its entirety as aired on the CBS Evening News on Tuesday, May 26th, 2026:

TONY DOKOUPIL: We turn to President Trump's medical checkup today. Most Americans over 65 are managing chronic health conditions, at least one or two, that according to the National Council on Aging. But the president said today his health checked out perfectly. Chief White House Correspondent Nancy Cordes joins us with details. Nancy, good evening to you.
NANCY CORDES: Tony, good evening. The White House is billing this as a routine annual dental and medical evaluation. Though, it's actually his third medical exam in the past year. All told, the president spent about three and a half hours at Walter Reed Medical Center today. White House officials telling us we should get a readout from the president's doctor within the next day or so. Although as you mentioned, Trump delivered his own report right after the visit which he called a six month physical. He said, Tony, “everything checked out perfectly.”
DOKOUPIL: So Nancy, what do we know about the president's health as he prepares to celebrate 80 years on the planet?
CORDES: Well, he was treated last year for chronic venous insufficiency, a fairly common condition for people his age. It can cause some swelling. He's also often seen with some bruising on his hands which the white house has said is due to aspirin use combined with frequent hand shaking. Otherwise his doctor has said that his cardiovascular and neurological health are good, Tony.
DOKOUPIL: All right, Nancy, Thank you very much.
It is worth noting that NBC ran no such items on the Nightly News, choosing instead to devote its White House time to covering preparations for the upcoming UFC Fight Night at The White House. We learned that walkouts to the Octagon will depart from The Oval Office. Some are already calling this card the worst-ever desecration of The White House, as if the Biden administration didn’t host that one Topless Transgender Day- which the Elitist Media didn’t cover, either.
This sudden impulse to do reporting stands in stark contrast to what transpired during the last administration. The American people were expected to pretend that the President of the United States didn’t routinely fall over, or slur his words, or fall asleep at assorted functions, or shake hands with ghosts. The Elitist Media were key to these efforts by omitting coverage of Joe Biden’s decline.
Now? With Trump back in charge? It’s (D)ifferent. Also, a stark reminder that if it weren't for double standards, there's be none at all.
