President Trump’s DOJ Sends Honduran Illegal Alien To Prison For Child Exploitation Crimes

A Honduran citizen who had been living in Alabama is heading to federal prison for more than a decade after a jury convicted him in a child-exploitation case. Federal prosecutors said Israel Ramos Portillo, also known as “Juan Carlos,” was sentenced to 121 months in federal prison. The case gives President Trump’s DOJ a clear law-and-order message: protect children, enforce the border, and make sure predators face real consequences. U.S. Attorney Heekin said: “This criminal illegal alien sought to sexually exploit and victimize a child, and drove for hours across state lines to accomplish that heinous crime. U.S. Attorney Heekin said: “This criminal illegal alien sought to sexually exploit and victimize a child, and drove for hours across state lines to accomplish that heinous crime. Thanks to the excellent investigative work by our state and federal law enforcement partners and the outstanding trial prosecution by my office, this predator will instead find himself in federal prison for more than a decade. As this case demonstrates, it is imperative that we secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws to repel and expel criminal illegal aliens from our country to keep our communities – and our kids – safe.” After serving his term of 121 months’ imprisonment, Portillo will have to serve 5 years of supervised release and register as a sexual offender. He will be held for deportation proceedings at the conclusion of his federal prison sentence. “This criminal illegal alien is a predator who sought to exploit the vulnerability of a child online,” said Homeland Security Investigations Tampa acting Deputy Special Agent in Charge Nicholas Ingegno. “Child predators will find no safe haven as HSI, alongside our partners, will relentlessly pursue those who attempt to harm our youth. Protecting children from these heinous crimes is of highest importance, and threats to their safety will not be tolerated.” This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This case is also part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. The sentence does not end when the prison term ends. Portillo must serve five years of supervised release, register as a sex offender, and then face deportation proceedings, according to DOJ. The investigation was handled by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin M. Keen prosecuted the case. Border enforcement and child protection are not separate issues when an illegal alien predator targets a child. This is what the federal government should be doing: finding them, convicting them, locking them up, and removing them when the sentence is over.
