Brad Paisley And Miranda Lambert Team Up For Classic Country Duet, “Someone Else’s Arms”

A good old fashioned country duet. Today, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert teamed up for a song called “Someone Else’s Arms,” which is part of Brad’s current, ongoing project, Tacklebox. Rather than dropping a traditional album all at once, he is putting out unreleased tracks from the vault that are either from his ’90s catalog, or were written more recently and were inspired by that sound. The last time we had a real project from Brad was over nine years ago, when he released Love and War in 2017. He had announced an album called Son of the Mountains set for release in 2023, though that never came to fruition, so it’s easy to imagine some of these songs might have been meant for that album. Brad explained that he wants Tacklebox to feel like his fans have a “direct link” to his Dropbox, or a “playlist that never ends”: “I see this ‘project’ as never-ending. It’s almost like the fans have a direct link to my Dropbox or to a playlist that never ends. We are calling it ‘Tacklebox; because it’s a box full of hooks, country lyric hooks. In this digital age, I have every song I’ve ever written at my fingertips. This project gave us a license to dig back into the catalog of songs that were never released, that feel like a time period, a style of writing, a sound, and nostalgia. We went back into the studio to record or re-record at The Castle in Franklin, TN, the same place where several of my first few albums were recorded. When I first started writing and recording music, I couldn’t have dreamed of the ability to put something out instantly for the fans.” Though I will always be partial to a fully fleshed out, complete album, a lot of these new(ish) Paisley songs are really good, and this one with Miranda is easily the best one yet. Written by Brad Paisley and Chris DuBois, it’s a heartbreaker as he starts out explaining that a man is cheating on his wife, and he’s “worn that ring so long, sometimes he forgets it’s on,” and even though he’s doing his wife wrong, he still misses her and hopes she isn’t “in someone else’s arms”: “He’s worn that ring so long Sometimes he forgets it’s on His memory is failing him again tonight So he meets an old girlfriend Down at the Red Roof Inn And with a free local call He’ll be free for the night And he lets it ring but no one’s there to answer And he wonders where his wife could be And hopes there’s nothin’ wrong And it’s times like this he’s glad that he can trust her Because he couldn’t bear the thought Of her in someone else’s arms” Miranda comes in with this verse, admitting the wife is doing the same thing, and she also hopes that her husband isn’t in “someone else’s arms,” even though she’s cheating on him too: “In a bar just south of town She lets him buy one more round Then he tells her she’s welcome To follow him back to his place She swears she can’t stay long ‘Cause there’s somebody waitin’ at home But an evening of freedom Is just a phone call away And she lets it ring but no one’s there to answer And she wonders where her husband is And hopes there’s nothin’ wrong And it’s times like this she’s glad that she can trust him Because she couldn’t bear the thought Of him in someone else’s arms” It also has shades of Brad’s mega hit duet with Carrie Underwood from 2011, “Remind Me,” which I was obsessed with when it came out, and I was really excited to hear what Brad and Miranda would come up with in terms of a duet… when a country duet is done right, nothing really compares in my humble opinion. I can’t recommend highly enough that you check it out below… it’s the duo I never knew I needed: “Someone Else’s Arms” The post Brad Paisley And Miranda Lambert Team Up For Classic Country Duet, “Someone Else’s Arms” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
