WATCH: Morning Show Host Fact-Checks Jeffries’ Complaint About High Prices Under Trump

The Democratic Party’s only cohesive message this election cycle involves denigrating every idea and policy put forward by the Trump administration. And in that vein, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) took aim at the White House with what he likely thought would be an easy political shot during a recent appearance on “Good Day New York.” But instead, one of the show’s co-hosts brought up a couple of inconvenient reminders from the two most recent Democratic presidents. As Fox News reported: “It was a reckless war of choice that has obviously cost the American people significantly, particularly as it relates to skyrocketing gas prices in an environment where the cost of living was already too high,” Jeffries said. After Jeffries emphasized the importance of “solving our own problems” in America, co-host Rosanna Scotto reminded him that former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden also saw high gas prices during their terms. “Gas prices were up under Obama too. And Biden, right?” Scotto said. While Jeffries attempted to answer, Scotto pressed, “Didn’t we have gas prices over $5?” “Well, there were gas prices in the immediate aftermath of the pandemic situation…” Jeffries remarked. “And I remember eggs were like $12 a dozen,” Scotto said. Meanwhile, gas prices are starting to come down nationwide as negotiations move toward a resolution to the military action in Iran. And Scotto wasn’t alone in recalling the Biden inflation of just a few short years ago: Shocking they were actually truthful and did a tough interview. What a clown — Jim Sihler (@JimSihler) June 15, 2026 Mediaite covered more of the on-air back-and-forth between Jeffries and Scotto: Jeffries explained that Democrats want the “costly war of choice” with Iran to end so the government can get back to “actually trying to make life better for the people of New York City and for the people of this country.” He continued, “The cost of living is way too high, America’s far too expensive, and perhaps we should actually focus on solving our own problems here in the United States of America, as opposed to getting involved in this war overseas that involved more than a dozen Middle Eastern countries, and we’re not even sure at the end of the day we’re better off than we were prior to the war.” “Well, can we be positive?” Scotto asked. “Maybe something good is going to come of this. I mean, you got the Knicks hat on. Everybody’s coming together. We’re coming together as a city. Maybe something good will come out of the Iran peace deal.” A few weeks ago, Trump highlighted another effort of his administration to reverse the inflation-fueling policies of his predecessor: What are your thoughts?
