President Trump Jokes About Who Will Take The Blame If Iran Deal Falls Through: ‘You Better Be Careful’
Although the White House remains confident that a memorandum of understanding with Iran will translate into an agreement that brings military operations in the region to a halt, nothing is official just yet.
In the interim, President Donald Trump is releasing details and clearing up confusion about the deal … and even sharing a lighthearted take about his worst-case-scenario strategy.
As The Hill reported:
“I like that idea, sure,” Trump said when asked by Fox News’s Peter Doocy if his vice president would take the fall if the deal fails.
“If it works out, I’m going to take the credit. If it doesn’t work out, I’m blaming JD. You better be careful, JD. He’s going to turn his plane around and get the hell out of here,” he joked.
Asked why he wasn’t planning to attend the signing of the memorandum of understanding Friday, Trump said he might — but added he wasn’t sure it was “the kind of document I should be signing.”
To be sure, Vance has been a leading figure throughout the negotiations that have resulted in the latest agreement.
His recent remarks have shed light on what Americans can expect from the deal:
Thank you, Lindsey. The President’s coalition is uniting behind his leadership and vision for a safer, more peaceful and prosperous world. https://t.co/HLGeIZ16Lp

The New York Post added these details:
Trump spoke as his aides finally released the text of the 14-point memorandum of understanding that Trump, Vance, and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf signed digitally on Sunday.
Vance, a veteran of the Iraq War, was wary of the conflict before it began on Feb. 28, but has defended Trump’s decision to start the conflict and taken a leading role negotiating its end, alongside special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Earlier this week, prominent Iran hawk Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) turned heads by crediting “the architect of the deal, Vice President Vance and his negotiating partners” — rather than Trump — and demanding congressional review.
The 14-point document has been described by US officials as tooled for making it saleable to Iran, and Trump insisted that there are additional understandings not specified in the written document.
For example, Trump said that “common sense” will prevent Iran from imposing tolls on the Strait of Hormuz because “they don’t want to get bombed.”
Here’s a clip of Trump’s remarks:
