Over A Dozen Democrats Make ‘Promise To America’ Pledge In Break From Far-Left, “We’re For Capitalism, Not Socialism”
The divide within the Democratic Party is deepening as 13 moderate Democrats have signed a ‘Promise to America’ pledge to support “strong borders, capitalism, and patriotism” amid the growing progressive wing of the party.
“You know there are certain things that I believe in that are not being reflected in the current environment, especially with some of these races on Tuesday,” Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) said.
“We’re for capitalism, not socialism. We’re for safety, not lawlessness. We’re proud of America, not ashamed of America — and we need to be promoting those things,” he continued.
“The far left and the far right, you know, they’re all very well organized. But those of us that don’t support those far left or far right principles need to do a better job organizing and getting our message out,” Suozzi added.

Axios explained further:
Moderate House Democrats are warning they’re prepared for “war” if incoming progressives and democratic socialists try to hijack the House floor to secure ideological concessions.
This strategy would mean even more work for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) to tamp down divisions and keep his caucus unified come 2027.
Despite being generally more closely aligned with Jeffries than the progressive wing, these centrists say they cannot allow their party to be dragged to the left without a fight.
“Clearly there has to be organization,” one centrist House Democrat told Axios. “You can’t just wring your hands on this stuff.”
“There’s going to be a war,” a second centrist lawmaker said, calling the incoming leftist members “bomb-throwers, not problem solvers.”
The New York congressional primaries on Tuesday were a wake-up call for many Democrats on Capitol Hill.
DSA members Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez both won hotly competitive primaries, and progressive Brad Lander ousted Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.).
The trio joins over half a dozen other left-wing candidates who have won primaries this year and another half-dozen vying to unseat more moderate Democratic incumbents.
Add that to the current “Squad” members in the House and their allies, and you start to get Congress’ most sizable left-wing bloc in the 21st century.
“America is stronger than our politics. Politics forces false choices between extremes on right and left. We reject them. Too many Americans have not benefited from the last half-century of economic growth. Americans want an economy that lowers costs, expands opportunity, and rewards the people who work hard every day,” the pledge read.
“Americans want safe communities and institutions that solve problems. We believe in building more to lower costs and expand opportunity. We believe Democrats succeed when we speak to the whole country and value persuasion over purity. We, the undersigned, make this Promise To America,” it continued.
Incredible.
A liberal coalition is finally forming to push back against both the far right and the far left.

The full text of ‘Promise To America‘ reads:
Growth, Competition, and Broad Prosperity
We are capitalist, not socialist.
We believe in a growing, fair, and competitive economy that rewards hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship, and ownership. Full-time work should make it possible to own a home, raise a family, afford healthcare, and retire with dignity. Economic, permitting, and tax policy should expand opportunity and lower costs for workers, families, entrepreneurs, and those striving to join the middle class, not disproportionately favor those already at the top.
Safety, Security, and Human Dignity
We want safety, not lawlessness.
We believe Americans deserve secure borders, safe communities, honest government, and an orderly immigration system that protects the country, strengthens the economy, and treats people with dignity. We believe America remains indispensable to global stability, democratic values, international security, and strong alliances. In a dangerous and uncertain world, America must lead with strength, purpose, and partnership.
Fiscal Discipline
We are responsible, not reckless.
A generation has passed since our party balanced the budget. We will prioritize tackling the national debt honestly. We must pay our bills, and not leave our children in debt.
Government That Works
We believe government should solve problems, not create them.
Government matters, but it must work. Public institutions should be competent, accountable, easier to navigate, and capable of building, innovating, and delivering results people experience in everyday life. Government should make life easier.
Free Speech, Respect, AND Common Purpose
We are mainstream, not extreme.
We believe Americans can disagree without division. We stand for moderation, acceptance, respect, free expression, and democratic pluralism. We embrace a politics of persuasion over purity, contempt, and cultural division.
Confident Patriotism and National Renewal
We are proud, not ashamed of America.
We believe America’s story is one of extraordinary achievement and unfinished work. We honor America’s strengths and exceptional character while striving to build a freer, stronger, more prosperous, and more perfect union.
