Riley Green & Comedian Kevin James Serenade Losers Crowd With “Don’t Mind If I Do” In Nashville
Ella Langley evidently wasn’t available to sing “Don’t Mind If I Do” with Riley Green… so the country star went and got comedian Kevin James as a replacement.
You never know who is gonna pop up on stage in Nashville. The beloved actor known for starring in comedy classic such as I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Grown Ups, and Paul Blart: Mall Cop has been staying busy recently. And no, when I say busy, I don’t mean that he’s been churning out movies, or working diligently on his stand-up comedy routine.
He’s having the time of his life dropping into for unexpected, country music duets.
Last summer, James made headlines when he surprised everyone at a Jelly Roll concert by helping the rapper-turned-country-artist sing “Need A Favor.” The comedic actor even dressed up like Jelly Roll, which made the performance that much more memorable. It was like seeing two Jelly Rolls up on stage.
A month later, he hopped up on stage with Thomas Rhett and got the country music crowd in attendance fired up. So James evidently loves himself some country music, and he’s always down to showcase his singing abilities (he can get by) while standing next to a country star.
The latest example being Riley Green.
It appears that after Green helped out with Alan Jackson’s “Last Call” concert at Nissan Stadium, he headed back to his midtown Nashville bar: Losers Bar and Grill. He’s been known to surprise bar goers with his presence from time to time, and the establishment has become a popular spot for artists and writers to hang out.
Judging by this video, it’s also become a great spot for legendary comedians to test out their vocals. In a bit of a fever dream duet, Kevin James and Riley Green stood up on stage and sang the country star’s hit song “Don’t Mind If I Do.” James needed some lyrical help from his phone, but other than that, it was a memorable and hilarious rendition of the track that Green originally sang with Ella Langley.
Check it out:
Kevin James is the best.
Any movie that I see him in, he immediately lifts up the film with his performance. I’d argue he did the exact same thing here when he stepped out on stage with Thomas Rhett (and filled in for Teddy Swims). Social media loved the unexpected duet, and everyone was in agreement that this recent trend of Kevin James showing up at country concerts is truly a gift to the world.
And I guess country music fans should just get used to Kevin James popping up at random country concerts and artist-owned bars for the foreseeable future? You never know where the Paul Blart actor will show up. He could be at the next country concert that you have tickets for, and I don’t know about you, but I’d certainly be down with that.
Oh, and here’s the original, Kevin-James-less version of the song in case you wanted to listen to that:
