“God Has Given Us A Conscience To Let Us Know He’s Real” — Morgan Wallen’s Dad Delivers Another Beautiful Sermon On SiriusXM

So good. Back in April, Morgan Wallen, launched his very own radio station on SiriusXM, aptly titled “Morgan Wallen Radio.” With this, he joined the likes of Chris Stapleton, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood and Kenny Chesney, all of whom have their own stations on the broadcasting corporation. Since debuting on April 7th, Morgan Wallen Radio has aired a plethora of different segments, and recently, his father, Tommy, spearheaded “Family Tradition With Tommy Wallen,” where he shares memories from the Wallen family, stories from Morgan’s childhood, his proudest moments from Morgan’s life and career and more. And as of two weekends ago, Tommy added another segment to his son’s radio station called “Tommy’s Sunday Seven,” which will serve as a seven-minute devotional each and every Sunday morning. Tommy is a preacher and Morgan grew up in the church, so it’s a very fitting new segment to add to his radio station: View this post on Instagram In the first episode, he shared a lot about his own personal journey to salvation, explaining that he was given a “general other than honorable circumstances discharge” two years into his four years of service in the Marine Corps following a DUI he got on base at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina. He called it the one of the things he’s “most ashamed of” in his past, and after he was forced to leave the service, he spent years either “drunk or high” every day. He shared a lot about his personal testimony and how he ended up in ministry, and this week, he got into the very beginning of the Bible and God’s creation. He started with the very first four words in the Bible in Genesis 1:1, “In the beginning, God…”, where he explained the creation of the world and how we’re all presented with two choices as a result: you can believe in the “God that created us, or a god, little ‘g,’ that we have created”: “Right out of the gate, we have a decision to make. God doesn’t try to prove himself, He simply presents himself. What we decide about these first four words will determine the path we take in our life. Life is about choices. The truth about choices is, we get to decide, but we don’t get to determine the consequences. I want to use these seven minutes each Sunday to help each of us making informed decisions. First we have to decide, is there a God? If so, what are we gonna do with that? Are we gonna worship and serve the God that created us, or a god, little ‘g,’ that we have created? You see, we all worship and serve something. You may say, I don’t, because I don’t believe in God. You may not believe in the God of the Bible, but you do worship something. We all do, whether we realize it or not. The word worship fundamentally means to ascribe worth, value, merit, importance or significance to something or to someone. It could be a job, a person, an addiction, such as drugs, alcohol, pornography, tobacco, food, sports, the list is endless. It’s anything or anyone we feel like we must have in our life to make it through another day. It’s what we dedicate our life to. I’m not gonna use this program to force what I believe on you. What I want to do is give you biblical information that will help you decide what’s really worth you giving your life to. We only get one life. There are no do-overs. There’s a poem by CT Studd, he was considered England’s best cricket player, that would be like the biggest sports star of our day. But he made a decision to quit playing cricket and become a missionary to the Congo, and here’s what he wrote: ‘Two little lines I heard one day, traveling along life’s busy way. Bringing conviction to my heart, and from my mind would not depart. Only one life, twill soon be passed. Only what’s done for Christ will last.'” Tommy continued, sharing specific verses that have spoken to him and helped him through his own drug and alcohol addiction, which he admitted took over his life at one point and caused him to make some very bad decisions. He encouraged anyone struggling with anything like that, whether it’s due to drugs, alcohol, or anything else, that it’s a slippery slope and of course, no one things when they “take the first drink, the first pill, that first look at porn” or anything else that it will end up controlling their life: “I said in the introduction that I’ve been a follower of Jesus Christ since July of 1991. Before that, I knew there was a God, but I chose to live like there wasn’t and I was my own God. I made my own decisions, I did what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it, and I didn’t care who I hurt, or consider the consequences of my actions. If I wanted to do it, I did it. And as I shared an episode one, I became an alcoholic and addict by the time I was a junior in high school. I too chose to quit sports, but not to become a missionary. I quit so I could have more time to drink and use drugs. My alcohol and drug use spiraled out of control for the next eight years. There were many consequences of living that lifestyle, which I will not talk about today, but I will say this, what started out as something I thought I could control ended up controlling me. The book of Proverbs 5:22-23 says this; ‘An evil man is held captive by his own sins. They are ropes that catch him and hold him. He will die for lack of self control. He will be lost because of his great foolishness.’ That was me being controlled by my addictions. I had to have it, or was believing the lie that I was telling myself that I did. No one makes the decision to take the first drink, the first pill, that first look at porn, the first you fill in the blank, with the thought, there will be a day in my future where I will want to stop, try to stop, and can’t. You may be there now, so what do we do? Let’s go back to the four words, ‘In the beginning…’ We have a decision about God, he has given us two things, really much more than that,  but for now we’ll focus on these two.” Tommy explained his own view on how creation and our human consciousness proves there’s a creator, and it’s God: “Creation and a conscience. Creation cries out, there’s a creator. How is it that we see all kinds of things and know someone made them? We see a watch and there’s a watch maker. We know all the parts were not put in a bag, shaken violently, and presto, a watch that keeps perfect time comes out. No way. We know better than that. Someone made that watch. Whether it’s a Timex or a Rolex, someone made it. So why do we buy the nonsense that nothing blew up and made everything? The biggest reason is, it does away with God. That way we can worship the gods we create, but the God of the Bible gave us creation, so that we may know that he exists. He’s always existed, and he will never cease to exist. Listen to Romans 1:19- 20: ‘Since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them for his invisible attributes, that is his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse.’ We will look closer at creation as we continue to walk through the Bible each week, but I want you to also know that God has given us a conscience to let us know he’s real.” Tommy says he will continue to dive into God’s word every week so that listeners can continue to chew on all of the information and ultimately make their own decision about God, the same way he did so many years ago: “Conscience is something inside us that lets us know we’re about to make, or have made a bad decision, or chose to do something wrong. Again, listen at verse 19: ‘Because that which is known about God is evident within them in their inner consciousness, for God hath made it evident to them.’ So God has giving us something on the outside, creation, and something on the inside, our conscience, to tell us that He exists.  Now we have a decision to make, are we going to acknowledge him as God? Thanks for tuning into Tommy’s Sunday Seven. Next week, we’ll look at the Word of God.” Tommy is an incredible preacher, and I don’t think he pastors his own church now, but it’s easy to tell he was an incredible preacher just based on this seven minute sermon. He is so welcoming and warm, and I think this is such an incredible way for him to bring the Word to people who have maybe never heard it like this before, from someone who was clearly been through a lot. I love that Morgan has given him this platform to do what he does best, and I have no doubt lives will be changed because of it.
