Emily Ann Roberts And Ian Munsick Team Up For Whiskey-Drenched New Duet, “Jack & Jill Daniel’s”
It’s always the dang whiskey.
Yesterday, Emily Ann Roberts released a new version of her song “Jack & Jill Daniel’s,” which she first put out as a solo single in August of 2025. She wrote it with Ryan Beaver, Jeremy Spillman, and Trent Willmon, and it’s a brilliant spin on the “went up the hill” nursery rhyme.
Emily was nominated for ACM New Female Artist of the Year award this year, and it’s a well-deserved recognition for Roberts, whose incredible voice and traditional country sound have positioned her for her breakout moment over the past couple of years.
If you’re not familiar with Emily Ann, she had a viral song called “Whole Lotta Little” a couple years ago, and she has released a couple of albums including her 2023 album Can’t Hide Country record and her most recent project, Memory Lane. Emily Ann was also on The Voice in 2015, and in addition to putting out great music and touring a lot, she showcases her country lifestyle for a big TikTok following and is a self-proclaimed “Yeehaw MeMaw.”
But this new version of “Jack & Jill Daniel’s” finds Emily duetting with Ian Munsick, as they go back and forth about Jack’s “heartbreak history,” which leads him up the hill to build a whiskey still, and the rest is history:
“Jill was a diamond in a chunk of coal town
Prettiest girl in any holler around
Took a shine to Jack, Jack gave her a ring
And for a little while they had a really good thing
Jill was hard to handle, that’s a known fact
But ’til you hear the whole story, you don’t know Jack
Jack went up the hill to build a still of whiskey
And drink away the hurt of his heartbreak history
Ain’t no mystery, that’s the way it goes
Behind every shot of Jack there’s a Jill Daniels
Oh
Nobody knows for sure, but the old timers say
Jill left with a man on a midnight train
Jack knew all along he couldn’t hold that girl
But what he did next changed the whole world”
It’s incredibly unique and fun, country to the core, and easily one of the most fresh and creative songs I’ve heard this year. Emily is such a star, and it’s so awesome to see her really start picking up some momentum and starting to get the recognition she deserves as one of the genres most exciting young stars.
Making this song into a duet just makes so much senes, and I’m a sucker for a good country duet.
