It’s an auspicious streaming debut for the film given that it grossed a little over $110 million on a reported $175 million budget. Not long after the movie bombed at the box office, an Amazon executive said the studio wasn’t too worried about the figures as the movie’s theatrical release was really just one part of a bigger release strategy that included its eventual streaming debut. That debut is apparently now happening about seven weeks after Masters of the Universe made its global theatrical debut. Needless to say, that’s on the shorter end of the theater-to-streaming timeframes, even by modern standards. The movie was also greeted with a mixed-to-negative critical reception, with our own review praising numerous aspects of the film while criticizing its struggles to commit to its various ideas and tones. As always, though, the film’s streaming debut does offer a nice chance to check the movie out for yourself and enjoy what is, at the very least, a movie that is certainly capable of offering a pretty good time to fans of the franchise in spite of some of some of its shortcomings.
