Defending a longtime friend. As we all know by now, pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got married on July 3rd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Permits filed with the city for street closures from July 2-4 revealed that the couple hosted around 1,000 guests at the event, there were tons of celebrities spotted on their way to the venue, and leaving after the festivities. The ceremony was, predictably, a giant spectacle that resulted in streets being shut down around New York City and giant crowds of Swifties forming outside of Madison Square Garden – despite the fact that they couldn’t see anything that was going on inside the arena. Other than a few leaks (like the napkins that featured a questionable Taylor Swift lyric), the details of the wedding have remained pretty locked down thanks to NDAs and strict security measures put into place by the couple and their teams. Considering Taylor’s country roots, it’s not too surprising that there were quite a few country star on-hand to help celebrate the couple, including Miranda Lambert, the members of Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Brad Paisley, Tim McGraw, who reportedly performed at the ceremony, and Kenny Chesney, who seemingly cancelled two of his shows at the Las Vegas Sphere to attend. Despite there not being too many details actually known about the wedding — outside of the location, some of the guests and the aforementioned napkins — it didn’t stop plenty of critics online from blasting Swift and Kelce for the seemingly extravagant ceremony. With that being said, however, Brad Paisley is not having the criticism being hurled towards the “Love Story” singer. During a sitdown with the Associated Press, Paisley, who attended with his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley, would defend the ceremony, calling it one of the “least pretentious” weddings he’s ever seen. “Ironically, [it] was one of the least pretentious weddings that I’ve ever seen or ever will see. It meant a lot to be [invited]. It was kind of a big thank you from her to invite us.” Additionally, the “Whiskey Lullaby” singer would reveal the convoluted invite process, explaining that the initial invites were sent without telling guests where the wedding was being held, instead only giving the date. Because of the top-secret nature, he’d call it a “cat-and-mouse game.” “They were very clear with the invite, and I took this personally when I got the invite, because in the invite, it said, ‘If you’re getting this, you mean a lot to us.’ It was really fun to watch the cat-and-mouse game of, like, ‘We can tell you roughly where it’s going to be. We’re not gonna say what building, and here’s the date. If you’re in, we’ll tell you more.’” Of course, it’s not too surprising that Paisley attended and would further defend the megastar, given that the two go way back. If you recall, Swift opened up for the West Virginia native back in 2007 when she was only 17 years old on his Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour. In fact, she actually made a cameo appearance alongside fellow opener, Kellie Pickler, for the music video for his #1 hit, “Online,” which starred Jason Alexander from Seinfeld.
