If you are a frequent viewer of CNN's talk show lineup, you may have a difficult time remembering the last time you watched, as a host consistently fact-checked and added context to outrageous claims from a left-wing guest on the show. But that was the case early Saturday morning on CNN's The Story Is With Elex Michaelson, where discussion of two recent shootings by ICE agents, expanded into the role and tactics of ICE in general, and Michaelson gave a memorable performance. Michaelson asked attorney Gloria Allred "Do you think that that ICE has a transparency problem? Do you think they have a public trust problem?" Allred claimed they have issues with both, and repeated allegations against one of the agents allegedly involved in the Maine shooting. ALLRED: In Maine where, Mr. Guerrero was just shot and killed, now there are two ex-wives of the ICE agent who allegedly killed him, who are saying that this ICE agent admitted to them that he killed the man and that they know or they're alleging that he has had a mental health history since childhood and a history of violence against them.Michaelson underlined "Those are just allegations," which Allred acknowledged. The host then asked talk show host Larry Elder if ICE has a trust problem. Elder says we have a massive problem in Biden letting in all kinds of criminals:ELDER:  If you go on the Homeland Security website, they update it every single day. They talk about the people that they've arrested and deported. murderers, child rapists, drug traffickers. These are the kinds of people that Homeland Security is trying to get out of the country.Elder then noted that many people were deported by President Obama, and that wasn't controversial, which led to another Allred response that would lead to Michaelson once again taking her to task.  ELDER: 30 percent or so of the ICE agents are people of color, as are about half of the border patrol agents are Hispanic." So these are people with families.... and I think we ought to give them a little bit of grace.ALLRED: I think what we should do is give grace to the American citizens who are being shot and killed and also to the innocent people who are being shot and killed who may not be Americans.MICHAELSON: We do not know that they were innocent people. We don't know --ALLRED: We know that some were not targets of I.C.E. and were mistakenly--MICHAELSON: But we don't know what they did. Part of the problem here --ALLRED: shot and killed.After Michaelson brought up the need for body cameras to help determine what happens, and that DHS claims don't always ended up matching video, Elder urged patience, and presented telling statistics.ELDER: There are 50 million interaction with the police every single year. 10 million arrests. 1,000 people are killed. Most of those are people that were resisting violently with a weapon.... Most of them are doing a very, very good job under very difficult circumstances.Again, Michaelson came down on the side of police.MICHAELSON: Overwhelmingly true....And the truth is body cams often help the cops more than it helps the victims, because it gets it a lot of the narratives that are sometimes said about cops are inaccurate.Wow! He then asked Allred if there is a role for ICE in taking criminals out of the country.  MICHAELSON: But to Larry's point, the Biden administration did allow in millions of people. We do not know that much information about a lot of them, and some of these people are criminals that are being taken out of the country. Isn't there a role for ICE in doing that?ALLRED: There's a role for ICE acting under the law and not acting in a random matter and shooting at cars....We can't have trust when people are walking around in masks. MICHAELSON: Well, say that they're doxxed.ELDER: Yeah. Because they don't want their families harassed.ALLRED: Well, neither do police officers want their families harassed. They don't wear masks.ELDER: And the percentage of people attacking ICE has gone up substantially, because they've been villainized. That's why they're wearing the masks.In fact, according to DHS vehicle attacks against ICE officers have gone up 3,300%. Michaelson continued his defense of law enforcement.MICHAELSON: We see when ICE have moved into places, people are standing there protesting outside their hotel rooms. They're honking horns. They're doing all sorts of things. And you can't understand why some of them may feel a little threatened for doing their job?  I mean, it's not ICE's fault that there are immigration laws in this country. That's Congress's fault.Unlike the standard CNN host, Michaelson seems to be balancing out the issues, the importation and the deportation, concerns about ICE and about its leftist enemies. Imagine all the hosts doing more of this.
