“Unlawful Dilution Of American Votes” – Justice Department Launches Probe Into Blue State

Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice Harmeet Dhillon announced on Tuesday that the Justice Department is investigating New Jersey after Gov. Mikie Sherrill admitted nearly 7,000 noncitizens were registered to vote. Thousands Of Noncitizens In Blue State Registered To Vote Due To “Software Error” – Governor Says "Today, NJ Gov. Sherrill stated that 400 non-citizens voted in elections. This is unacceptable and illegal! The @CivilRights Division @TheJusticeDept is investigating this unlawful dilution of American votes," Dhillon said. Today, NJ Gov. Sherrill stated that 400 non-citizens voted in elections. Mikie Sherrill said that a "serious software error in New Jersey’s Motor Vehicle System led to the registration of roughly 6,600 people who indicated that they were not U.S. citizens between June 2023 and June 2024, almost three years prior to my taking office." "These individuals answered 'no' when asked on a keypad whether they were a U.S. citizen when applying for drivers' licenses and identification cards, but through no fault of their own, the system registered them anyway," according to Sherrill. She stressed that while the "error" occurred under the previous administration, headed by Democrat Phil Murphy, she ordered her administration's attorney to look into the matter and remove the illegally-registered voters from the rolls. "Our preliminary analysis shows fewer than 400 individuals who were newly registered for the first time because of the error voted," she said. "They were registered as Democrats, Republicans and Unaffiliated voters and were scattered across the state." "I am appalled by the reckless failures that allowed this to happen and the lack of transparency shown by those in charge at the time," she said, emphasizing for the third time that the improper voting didn't happen on her watch. “As the Trump Administration tries to weaponize elections for political gain, I am ensuring we protect our elections. Let me be clear: Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity. For more than ten years, he has worked to undermine Americans’ faith in our elections by spreading lies about legitimate election results, attempting to overturn a free and fair election, encouraging an attack on our Capitol when he couldn’t accept the will of the voters, and defunding election security at the federal level,” Sherrill said. “The difference is simple: when we find a problem, we don’t hide it, deny it, or invent conspiracies. We investigate it, we fix it, and we tell the public. That’s what accountability and good governance look like, and that’s exactly what my administration is doing,” she continued. The Department of Homeland Security gave the state two weeks to respond and confirm its “intentions to collaborate with DHS in order to ensure free, fair, and honest elections.” Sherrill said the state has asked for evidence of Mullin’s claim and “heard nothing back.” She added she does not intend to turn personally identifying information over to the federal government because the Trump administration “continues to weaponize it against people.” Mullin responded to a social media post in which Sherrill divulged the error, saying, “Appreciate you responding back to our letter.” “Looking forward to working with you to secure your elections in the future,” he said on X.
