Jinks is back with more from his critically acclaimed album, In My Blood. Last July, Cody Jinks released his 11th studio album, In My Blood, and it was yet another stellar outing filled with his patented blend of country and rock. There were plenty of standout tracks, namely the sobriety ballad “Better Than the Bottle” and the thought-provoking “Found,” as well as the title track. As we’ve come to expect from Cody Jinks, the album was packed with deeply personal and introspective songwriting, featuring Jinks’ signature classic country stylings with a dash of that Texas rock grit. The Texas native is flexing his versatility and hitting the road with none other than the metal band Five Finger Death Punch for over 40 dates this summer and fall. But the “David” singer is also expanding In My Blood in the form of a deluxe edition. Announced back in June, In My Blood (DELUXE) is finally here, featuring three new tracks—“Good Man,” “Jesus and The Devil,” and “Know It All”—as well as an acoustic version of “Lonely Man.” Right off the bat, “Jesus and The Devil” immediately grabs your attention. For anyone who’s ever wrestled with notions of good and evil, sin and redemption, or Jesus and the Devil, the angst of this song will feel all-too-familiar. Surrendering yourself to Christ is literally and fundamentally a life-changing experience. You’re a new creation. But that doesn’t mean the Devil doesn’t try to run you down, or that you’ll never stumble… in fact, it can sometimes feel like an unbearable weight, even for the most righteous of men. In Psalm 40, David laments his own sin, even though just a few verses prior he praised God for lifting him out of the muck and the mire: “For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.” In “Jesus and The Devil,” Cody wrestles with that exact same notion, noting how even though he prays for salvation, sometimes it gets so dark that he can’t see. And though he walks with Jesus, and Jesus in turn walks with him, that doesn’t mean the Devil doesn’t follow close behind. He sings in the chorus: “And I keep prayin’ that in time I’ll find salvation But the water turns to wine, it’s so dark that I can’t see And I walk the line between redemption and damnation ‘Cause Jesus and the Devil walk with me…” Like I said, for anyone struggling to walk the straight and narrow, this song is certain to hit home. Of course, the good news is that the blood of Jesus covers all those stumbles, all those slip-ups, and all those dark times when you feel like you’re failing. Run to Jesus. And more great news, even more new music from Jinks looks to be on the horizon. Back in March, he’d take to Instagram to let fans know that he was in the studio working on yet another project. “We start recording today… We’re gonna be stirring the gravy for the next two weeks, y’all.
