NFL Head Coach Seriously Injured In Car Accident
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan suffered serious injuries in a car accident earlier this month, the team announced.
“San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week when he suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Coach Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers,” the 49ers said in a statement.

ESPN explained further:
Shanahan broke his nose, three ribs and his hand, needed more than 40 stiches in his face, and suffered a severe concussion during a July 14 car crash when he collided with an SUV near his northern California home, according to sources familiar with the situation.
Shanahan is recovering well from many of the injuries, though he still has lingering concussion symptoms, general manager John Lynch said Saturday. Assistant head coach Chris Foerster will assume some of Shanahan’s duties until he returns, though Lynch said it will be a group effort to fill in for Shanahan.
“Kyle is doing good. He’s got some bumps and bruises. He did suffer a concussion in the accident. Has some lingering effects from that concussion,” Lynch said.
“Kyle is basically going to be in the concussion protocol,” he added.

Fox News has more:
Palo Alto Lt. Nicholas Martinez told ESPN the other driver was not injured and that drugs or alcohol were not involved. Shanahan was taken to a hospital by paramedics after the wreck and was released after spending much of the day there.
“Consistent with our standard release of information procedures in such cases, we do not release information regarding the cause of the collision or which party may have been at fault,” Martinez told ESPN.
He told the outlet that no one was cited in the collision.
The 49ers’ training camp starts on Sunday, but Shanahan will not be allowed to participate until he is cleared by doctors. The longtime coach told his assistant coaches about the accident on Tuesday, according to the report.
