For years, Hollywood playboys wondered if Carly Simon’s 1972 hit song, “You’re So Vain,” was about them. While Carly confirmed one of the lines is in fact about Warren Beatty, the others are apparently a combination of several other men she knew in her younger days.  The Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter has lived a rather quiet and private life for several years, but on July 27, 2026, she shared an unexpected update with People. Carly Simon will release her first new album in 18 years. But that wasn’t the only news. She also has Parkinson’s disease. She explained in her statement that she went to the Mayo Clinic and doctors diagnosed her with Parkinson’s. “You can find yourself lying there like a starfish drying in the sun, arms pointing in all directions, while nothing inside is telling you to get up, read, watch, write, sing, call someone, or do much of anything at all,” Carly Simon wrote. “That has been one of the hardest things to explain. It is not simply sadness or laziness. It is as though the part of the brain that sends out invitations to participate in life has temporarily misplaced the guest list,” she added. Carly Simon shared that she also had skin cancer removed during this time. If that weren’t enough, she also began working on her new album “Comes in Waves.” Carly didn’t give up; she turned to her music, which she said gave her “shape.” For Carly Simon, the future is now, and she’s grateful to be here. “I am still writing, singing, imagining, laughing, worrying, remembering, and occasionally getting trapped in an overstuffed chair,” she wrote. “I am deeply grateful to my children, my family, my friends, my caregivers, and the medical professionals who have helped me through this. Their love and patience have carried me through days when my own reserves were not enough.” Carly Simon’s new album will drop on August 14, 2026.
