Leon Majcen is proving to be prolific, but he’s not sacrificing quality for quantity. In tandem with the release of his latest single, the Clearwater, FL native announced on Friday that his next record The Leaving Kind is due out on September 4. And if the tracks released thus far are any indication, it’s going to be an album you won’t want to miss. Marking his 5th album since 2020 – and 4th since 2024 – Majcen has been on an absolute tear releasing music over the past couple of years. And the impressive thing is that all of the releases have been spectacular. After having released “Road Dog Express,” “Slowing Me Down,” and “Turn Me In” over the span of just over a month earlier this summer, it was clear that Majcen had something in the works. Now we know there’s plenty where that came from. Titled “Don’t You Cry,” his latest single is a lonesome road dog’s anthem of sorts that seems to touch on the difficult nature of maintaining relationships while out on the road. Deftly written with a chorus that toes the line between catchy and morose, Majcen manages to turn a somber tune into a track that fans won’t be able to help but sing along to. Check out “Don’t You Cry” here: Heavily influenced by legendary artists who are often described as “the songwriter’s songwriter,” like Van Zandt, Guy Clark, and John Prine, to name a few, Majcen’s music is full of clever lyricism and detailed imagery that’ll transport you to a specific time and place, or at the very lease strike a chord and evoke an emotion that few artists his age are able to tap into. Though he currently resides in Nashville, Majcen hails from the Florida Gulf Coast, and elements of his coastal background are prevalent in his music, both sonically and thematically. With unique vocals as well, his music sticks out in a time when many up and coming artists sound the same, and it seems the scene is finally taking note. Recorded with producer Pat Lyons (Colter Wall, Sam Barber) and released via Evan Honer’s indie label Cloverdale Records, The Leaving Kind is shaping up to be some of Leon Majcen’s best work yet.
