It follows on two Visions shorts, “The Ninth Jedi” and “The Ninth Jedi—Child of Hope,” though it seems like you might be able to watch without any previous knowledge. The first trailer began with a little time-and-place-setting, with a voiceover that said, “The Jedi and the Sith have disappeared. A terrible age of conflict now mires the galaxy in chaos.” A new and final trailer reintroduces Lah Kara, whose missing father was a powerful Jedi—and a crafter of lightsabers that react to their user’s heart. “In the new series,” StarWars.com explains, “Lah Kara continues to train in the ways of the Jedi under Margrave Juro amid an epic journey of self-discovery as she and Juro’s small fellowship of Jedi-in-training embark on a quest to save her father.” The final trailer makes mention of a weapon—seemingly fueled by kyber crystals—that will destroy an entire planet. This may sound somewhat familiar. The Ninth Jedi may be set in the future, but it plays on familiar Star Wars themes about the power of emotions and the use or misuse of knowledge. Lucasfilm is releasing The Ninth Jedi in both its original Japanese and in an English-language dub. The original cast includes Chinatsu Akasaki (Lah Kara), Tetsuo Kanao (Juro), Hiromu Mineta (Ethan), Hinata Tadokoro (Homen), Cho (Gramps), Shinichiro Miki (Lah Zhima), and Akio Otsuka (The Narrator). The English version features Kimiko Glenn (Lah Kara), Andrew Kishino (Juro), Masi Oka (Ethan), Patrick Seitz (Homen), JP Karliak (Gramps), Simu Liu (Lah Zhima), Neil Kaplan (The Narrator), Feodor Chin (Gennoh), Young Mazino (Nawaam), Chase Sui Wonders (Tafflah), and Keone Young (Kwana). The Ninth Jedi is directed by Shunsuke Tada and written by Mitsuyasu Sakai.
