Brides Are Using A Randy Travis Song About Cheating To Show Off Their Rings – And The Internet Is Confused

Interesting song choice… One of the great things about TikTok is that it’s given new life to some incredible country classics. Songs like Keith Whitley’s “Miami, My Amy,” “Neon Moon,” and Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” have been introduced to new, younger audiences thanks to becoming trends on TikTok, which is obviously a great opportunity to bring new fans into classic country music. But I’m not sure they’re really listening to the lyrics… One of the biggest hits for country music legend Randy Travis is “On the Other Hand,” which became his first #1 hit after originally being released on his debut studio album Storms Of Life in 1986. It was actually released as a single twice: The song was Randy’s first single, but peaked at only #67 on the charts. But after the success of his follow-up single “1982,” the label decided to re-release the song as a single, and this time it went on to become the country music legend’s first chart-topping single. Written by two legendary songwriters, Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet, the song is about a man who’s tempted to have an affair, but looks at his wedding ring as a reminder to stay faithful. “On one hand, I count the reasons I could stay with you And hold you close to me all night long So many lover’s games I’d love to play with you On that hand there’s no reason why it’s wrong But on the other hand, there’s a golden band To remind me of someone who would not understand On one hand, I could stay and be your lovin’ man But the reason I must go is on the other hand” That’s what makes it so awkward that the song has somehow taken off on TikTok as way for wives to show off their wedding rings and happy marriages: @cheyjonesxoxo Love this trend ♬ On the Other Hand (2021 Remaster) – Randy Travis @tayymacyy A moment for the ring #engagementring #wedding #weddingplanning #fyp #viral ♬ original sound – stock_24v @abbiemarielovan #fyp #engaged #emeraldcut #silverband #randytravis ♬ original sound – stock_24v @madelynclary (Also I know this song has different intentions but wanted to join the trend) ♬ original sound – stock_24v I mean, I see what they’re going for but not sure it’s the most appropriate song choice. Now, I could use this as an opportunity to talk about how superficial TikTok is, how people are simply taking the chorus at face value without actually caring about the meaning of the song and it’s a symptom of the social media era we’re living in. But honestly it’s not really that deep, although it is pretty funny that they’re using this particular song. And of course there are also plenty of videos from people calling them out too: @shannynmo love king @Randy Travis but this song is def about cheating and not a cutie love story #engagement #ontheotherhand #randytravis #tiktoktrend ♬ On the Other Hand – Randy Travis @taylorpeck12 #fypシ゚viral #smalltownusa #randytravis #fypシ ♬ original sound – stock_24v At the end of the day, it’s a great song and you can’t really be mad about the music of Randy Travis getting some much-deserved attention on social media. If people discover his music through the trend and even dig deeper into his catalog, then it’s nothing but a good thing. Let’s just hope that the people posting the videos don’t end up in the same situation as the song…The post Brides Are Using A Randy Travis Song About Cheating To Show Off Their Rings – And The Internet Is Confused first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
