Georgia House Race Takes Stunning Turn After Officials Find What Was Missing
A Georgia House race separated by just 58 votes has been turned upside down after officials found an overlooked memory card holding Election Day results.
Republican state Rep. Gerald Greene had appeared to lose his District 154 seat to Democrat Harry James.
Then came the post-election check.
After the missing results were uploaded, Greene moved from 58 votes behind to an unofficial 262-vote lead.
BREAKING: A missing memory card has FLIPPED the apparent outcome of a Georgia House race.
Republican Gerald Greene went from trailing Democrat Harry James by 58 votes to LEADING by 262 after uncounted votes were discovered in Seminole County.
Officials found a 388-vote discrepancy during routine checks.
If the result holds, Democrats will have just a ONE-SEAT majority in the Georgia House.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has launched an investigation into the error.
Maybe Democrats can agree that we should now go to ALL PAPER BALLOTS?

The Georgia Secretary of State’s Office says its routine review found approximately 388 more Election Day voter check-ins in Seminole County than ballots reported as cast.
State officials alerted the Seminole County Board of Elections. County officials then determined that a memory card containing election results had never been uploaded into the election management system.
The state release says the discrepancy surfaced during the normal post-election review and canvassing process, before the county certified its results. It does not accuse a candidate, voter, or election worker of fraud.
It identifies a failure to upload the card and says investigators will determine how it happened. The county’s certification deadline is Monday, giving the inquiry immediate stakes for both candidates and the chamber.
That single failure changed who was leading the race.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has now opened an investigation into how the card was overlooked, whether required procedures were followed, and what changes are needed to keep it from happening again.
His office called the mistake unacceptable and stressed that the totals remain unofficial until certification. Seminole County officials have until Monday to certify their results.
Through post-election canvassing it was discovered that a memory card of Election Day votes had not been uploaded from Seminole County. That has been done & Rep Gerald Greene is now winning that race that he had been trailing since election night.

This was not a box of ballots suddenly appearing without an audit trail. The state’s own canvassing safeguards found a numerical mismatch between voter check-ins and reported ballots, which led officials to the unuploaded card.
That distinction matters.
So does the failure itself.
Election safeguards are supposed to catch discrepancies, and in this case they did. But a memory card carrying hundreds of Election Day votes should never have been left out of the reported count in the first place.
When a race is decided by dozens rather than thousands of votes, one missed upload can reverse the entire apparent outcome.
The political consequences could reach far beyond one southwest Georgia district.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that, if Greene’s lead holds, Democrats would enter the 180-member Georgia House with 92 seats, just one more than the 91 required for a majority. Another contest is headed to a December runoff, leaving the final balance unusually tight.
The paper notes that Greene was among the Legislature’s most vulnerable Republican incumbents. James was trying to convert a Democratic wave into a win in a district that has become increasingly difficult for the GOP, and the initial 58-vote margin appeared to have done exactly that.
The late Seminole County upload has now put that conclusion on hold. It also means the unresolved District 154 count could determine whether Democrats begin their new majority with any breathing room at all.
BREAKING: A missing memory card discovered in southwest Georgia could cost Democrats a seat in the state House and narrow their newly won majority before they even take power.

Greene has represented the region for decades. He was first elected as a Democrat in 1982 and later switched to the Republican Party after the 2010 election.
According to the AJC, he is now the only Republican in the General Assembly representing a majority-Black district, and he has repeatedly survived in increasingly difficult political territory.
James appeared to have finally unseated him on election night.
Now the apparent result has flipped, the state has launched an investigation, and Georgia voters are waiting for certification.
WCTV reported that local election officials were unavailable for comment Friday afternoon. The station also confirmed the county’s Monday certification deadline and the state’s inquiry into whether election procedures were followed.
The local report traced the sequence from the state’s check-in discrepancy to the county’s discovery of the unuploaded card, then to the revised District 154 total. It emphasized that the race was still uncalled and that the investigation would examine both the overlooked card and the corrective steps needed before another election.
That leaves two separate questions for officials to answer: whether the revised count survives certification, and why hundreds of recorded voters were missing from the first reported total.
No one should have to guess whether every lawful ballot made it into the reported total.
The guardrails caught this one before certification. The investigation now has to explain how a memory card carrying nearly 400 votes was missed at all.
And with control of a state legislative chamber hanging by a thread, Georgia deserves a clear answer.
