Dumping the Term ‘Bidenomics’ Isn’t Enough for Joe

The problem with Joe Biden’s economic message of “look how good things are” is twofold: First‚ for most people‚ inflation/high prices is the most important issue‚ and while the inflation rate is down‚ it’s still positive‚ meaning that all the massive price increases of the past remain in place and prices are still rising from there‚ just more slowly. People still see the prices of milk‚ of steak‚ of stuff at the hardware store‚ and they correctly blame it on Joe Biden. Second‚ to the extent that some economic indicators are good (and some surely are)‚ people correctly understand that it’s despite Biden‚ not because of him. (And that much of the recovery‚ such as in jobs‚ would have happened under any president as we emerged from COVID.) So every time Biden talks about Bidenomics (which was always a horrendous talking point)‚ all he’s really doing is reminding people how much they disapprove of him. Obviously‚ other Dems recognized this a while ago and abandoned the term. Biden himself has been slower to do so because he’s so utterly out of touch with “the people” and because his ego won’t let him believe that he’s not our savior. But even dropping that particular slogan won’t save him. I’m not a Trump guy‚ but it remains fascinating that a billionaire with a gold toilet and private jet has a better connection with “the working man” than “Scranton Joe” Biden does. Wanna know why? Because even though Trump started on third base with a huge inheritance from daddy‚ he actually did stuff‚ built stuff‚ met a payroll‚ and even finished a failed government project under time and under budget (the ice rink in New York City’s Central Park). Biden has been part of the federal government (with one short break during which he went from middle class to rich) since 1973‚ four years after he finished law school. (He actually started in politics two years before that.) He’s never done anything in the real world. Never created a job. Never met a payroll. Never built anything. Never learned how to build anything even if he wanted to. Never did anything other than be a leech on the ankle of the American taxpayer. And everybody knows it. Which is why dropping “Bidenomics” won’t save him.
