A security guard shot dead by a shoplifting suspect over the weekend was the second murder victim in days at a 7-Eleven in Oakland‚ California‚ according to reports.
The horrifying incident unfolded just after 10 p.m. on Friday night in the Adams’ Point neighborhood of the city.
James Johnson‚ a 59-year-old security guard‚ confronted a suspect attempting to steal candy from the convenience store when he was shot dead.
In surveillance footage obtained by local media‚ Johnson can be seen throwing an object at the masked suspect‚ who then opens fire and flees the scene.

“I was in a state of shock. He was the best person I ever met. He used to be our customer… everyday customer. One day he stopped somebody stealing the beer‚” a co-worker told KTVU.

While CBS Bay Area was shooting a report at the store on Saturday‚ a woman collapsed sobbing on the sidewalk.
She identified herself as the victim’s daughter during a heart-wrenching exchange with a local reporter.

She told the reporter her mother passed away less than a year ago and she has very few family members remaining.
“She died four days before my birthday and I just found out from my little brother that my dad died‚” she said.
“He was protecting the family at 7-Eleven because I know how my father is. He would do that for anybody who he cared about and loved.”
Authorities have not apprehended or identified a suspect at the time of this writing‚ according to the latest available updates.
Another murder took place at a 7-Eleven in the Oakland area just days prior.
On December 4‚ a man was reportedly pumping gas in broad daylight at a 7-Eleven when a vehicle pulled up and multiple suspects jumped out and opened fire.
One 7-Eleven owner told NBC Bay Area his store has been robbed 30 times in the past year.
