That straightforward approach would be cheaper and easier to forgive than his latest scheme‚ which plays New Yorkers for total suckers. Among the five arrested‚ four were freed without bail just three hours later. Jhoan Boada‚ 22‚ remorselessly waved his middle fingers as he departed Manhattan Criminal Court. According to Fox News‚ these four soon scored taxpayer-funded bus tickets and high-tailed it to California‚ the most sanctuary of states. (This just in: Fox News reports that authorities nabbed these thugs overnight at a Phoenix bus station.) These intersecting outrages have rubbed nerves raw‚ even among otherwise liberal New Yorkers. As the Epoch Times’ Tom Ozimek details‚ New York will spend $53 million to provide pre-paid debit cards to 500 illegal-alien families with children. They‚ in turn‚ must sign affidavits pledging to spend this money only on food and baby supplies. Some 172‚000 illegal aliens have landed in Gotham since last year. Many have complained about the food the city serves them for free. Others toss their meals in the trash. Well‚ by Jove‚ Mayor Adams is on it! Adams’ spokeswoman‚ Kayla Mamelak‚ bragged that this handout will allow illegals “to purchase fresh food for their culturally relevant diets‚” and thank God for that! How dare City Hall offer free American cuisine to those who graciously invaded our country? Mamelak also claims that “the pilot program is expected to save New York City more than $600‚000 per month‚ or more than $7.2 million annually.” Even if spending taxpayer dollars on undeserving people who broke into America somehow saves New York City money‚ it would take seven-plus years‚ at that pace‚ for this boondoggle to break even. These debit cards‚ produced by Mobility Capital Finance‚ are supposed to furnish a family of four roughly $1‚000 per month in gratis groceries or $12‚000 in annual nutritional welfare. This $53 million fool’s errand ultimately might expand to that average per-family price. However‚ the initial 500-family target means that this project costs $106‚000 per brood. At that rate‚ why not assign every family a private chef? “We’re just giving this migrant population more free stuff at the expense of New York City taxpayers‚” City Councilman Joe Borelli (R–Staten Island) lamented to Fox 5-TV. Santa Adams’ gifts for illegals glisten beside the giant lump of coal he has handed New York’s school children‚ who are 81.3 percent minority. His $53 million sop to illegal aliens almost equals his $60 million slash in the Education Department’s nutrition budget. Thanks to Adams’ budget cut‚ government-school cafeterias stopped serving foods popular with students‚ among them: bean and cheese burritos‚ grab-and-go salads‚ and cookies. “Other items that will be taken out of rotation in February include roasted chicken thighs and legs as well as guacamole and salsa‚” the education-focused Chalkbeat website reports. “Breakfast meal kits‚ French toast sticks‚ bagel sticks‚ ciabatta bread‚ and sweet potato oatmeal muffins will also be scratched.” So‚ what’s to eat? Cheaper options remain on school menus‚ including pizza‚ hummus and crackers‚ and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Eric Adams literally is denying local students food they savor so that he can feed illegal aliens. As New York Post columnist Cindy Adams (no relation) would say: “Only in New York‚ kids. Only in New York.” Adams’ pro-illegal profligacy is even more grating due to opportunity costs. These $53 million could be used to cover the first-year pay of local public servants who actually do some good. Dividing $53 million into the starting salaries of these municipal workers shows what New Yorkers could enjoy with this money‚ rather than keep people fat and happy who have zero business being here. The $53 million would let New Yorkers hire 677 freshly minted public-hospital nurses‚ 711 brand-new prosecutors‚ 818 first-time teachers‚ 840 public defenders straight from law school‚ or 905 rookie cops. This sum could put 973 mass-transit bus drivers into gear‚ send 1‚048 Subway conductors rolling down the tracks‚ allow 1‚119 sanitation workers to clean up‚ send 1‚173 of New York’s Bravest to battle blazes‚ or help 1‚346 FDNY EMTs respond first. Rather than these benefits‚ New Yorkers get the bill for Mayor Adams’ latest illegal-alien bonanza plus the joy of buying groceries with their own money.
