As former President Donald Trump faces trial in New York, the Biden campaign has brought the full force of Hollywood out to lecture Trump voters at a press conference — and it didn’t go as planned. On Tuesday, Robert De Niro appeared outside the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse, where final statements in the Trump trial were taking place. The 80-year-old actor, famous for his roles in Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II and Taxi Driver, called Trump supporters “crazy.” (RELATED: In Sum, Trump’s Defense Focuses on Accounting, Prosecution Obsesses Over Adultery) “It’s really crazy, and this thing, Donald Trump has created this,” De Niro said as the crowd loudly heckled him. “He should be telling them not to do this.” Later, the actor cursed out the Trump supporters who called him “washed up” and claimed his “movies suck.” “You are gangsters. You are gangsters,” he shouted. “F*** you.” “Your movies suck! You’re trash!” Robert De Niro is not having a good one at the Trump trial pic.twitter.com/Atw4Sbhs62 — Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) May 28, 2024 The crowd’s response quickly went viral on social media, and Trump didn’t hesitate to wade into the fray, blasting De Niro as a “tyrant” on Truth Social. “I never knew how small, both mentally and physically, Wacko Former Actor Robert De Niro was,” Trump posted. “Today, De Niro, who suffers from an incurable case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, commonly known in the medical community as TDS, was met, outside the Courthouse, with a force far greater than the Radical Left — MAGA.” Media Blasts De Niro The New York Post featured the press conference on Wednesday’s front page, reporting, “De Niro goes ballistic stumping for Biden outside Trump trial.” Today’s cover: Robert De Niro headlines bizarre Biden campaign presser outside Trump trial: ‘You’re a f–king idiot’ https://t.co/2CswwVh0Dn pic.twitter.com/C3yXOCGP88 — New York Post (@nypost) May 29, 2024 Fox News’ Jesse Watters similarly called out De Niro’s support of the Biden campaign and claimed that the actor was attempting to swing the jury against Trump. “Today, the White House sent Punchy Robert De Niro to stump for Biden outside the Manhattan courthouse where they’re prosecuting Trump,” Watters posted on X. “There’s no clearer admission that this trial is the Democrats’ last-ditch effort to get Trump off the ballot.” De Niro, Watters argued, employed fear mongering in his prepared statements, a tactic the actor explicitly admitted to using. “The Twin Towers fell … just over there,” De Niro said. “This part of the city was like a ghost town. But we vowed: We would not allow terrorists to change our way of life. Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country, and eventually he could destroy the world.” He continued: “Under Trump, this kind of government will perish from the earth. I don’t mean to scare you. No, no, wait, maybe I do mean to scare you…. If he gets in, I can tell you right now, he will never leave.” Watters lambasted the Biden campaign for its decision to sponsor De Niro’s comments. “The most powerful man in the world sent an actor who plays a mob boss to intimidate the jury before deliberations,” he jeered. Others jumped on X to call out the press conference’s theatrics, which additionally featured police officers who were present during the Jan. 6 riots and spokesmen from the Biden campaign. “The Democrats turned the Trump Trial into an even Bigger TV Show today by carting out Robert De Niro to say some whack-a-doodle stuff,” posted Chris Plante.
