New York Town Trash Talks Offenders In Sassy Anti-Littering Campaign

We can all use a little tough love sometimes. For residents of Babylon, a town in New York, they’re currently getting some of that very love from their own government. Why? Because their litter problem has simply been out of hand for far too long. Standard anti-littering campaigns have failed to yield results, inspiring those in charge to think outside of the box. Rather than asking politely, they’re going what you might call the “trash talk” route. While this may sound harsh, there is no anger in their campaign. On the contrary, the folks who are creating this clever content are using humor to inspire positive change. Because, ultimately, having less litter on the road is truly better for everyone. Watch some of their campaign videos for yourself in the video below! “Why do we have to have the moniker of being slobs?” Town of Babylon Supervisor, Richard Schaffer, says. “That’s why we’re literally getting in everybody’s face now and saying, ‘Enough is enough.'” You have to hand it to the folks behind this anti-littering campaign — they know how to garner attention! By utilizing humor, more people will realize just how much litter has accumulated in the town this year so far: 250 tons of trash has been picked up from the road alone. Plus, in their creeks, another 15,000 pounds has been collected. Anti-Littering Campaign Utilizes Humor and “Trash Talk” to Urge Residents to Stop Littering “We want to show people that if you are littering, you’re doing something totally irresponsible and immature,” Richard explains. Tackling an issue like this can feel overwhelming. But this trash-taking campaign is a great reminder that each of our individual actions has the power to impact others, both in positive and negative ways. So, the next time you’re about to litter, simply ask yourself: What would the government of Babylon say? You can find the source of this story’s featured image here!
