The Old Farmer’s Almanac tells us that it refers to the time of year that bucks, aka male deer, are growing out their antlers. Apparently, these animals lose their headgear once a year, only to grow them back even larger each time! Some Native American tribes have different monikers for the full Buck Moon. Technically, it will reach its peak in the wee hours of Sunday, July 21st. However, you may not actually be able to see it at this time. The Old Farmer’s Almanac explains that it will dip beneath the horizon at 6:17 A.M. Eastern Time. Instead, you should keep an eye out for the full Buck Moon on the evening of Saturday, July 20th. Wait until after sunset, and you should see it rising in the southeast! According to People, the full Buck Moon has some astronomical significance worth noting.
