Ron DeSantis Issues Warning About Florida Proposed Abortion Amendment
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a warning about a proposed abortion amendment in the Sunshine State on the November 2024 ballot.
“Amendment 4 is bad for Florida, and we must come together to defeat it in November,” DeSantis said.
“It eliminates parental consent for minors, making abortion the only procedure a minor can get without a parent’s consent. It removes doctors from the decision and allows any so-called ‘health care provider’ to make the decision. It will allow abortion in Florida up until birth and will invalidate all pro-life protections in state law,” he added.

DeSantis reportedly told an audience this week at a Jesuit High School that the amendment’s passage may collapse the pro-life movement in Florida.
From the Tampa Bay Times:
The opposition to Amendment 4 is getting organized, and Gov. Ron DeSantis is leading the resistance.
At an event at Jesuit High School on Thursday, DeSantis galvanized opposition to the amendment, which would end most abortion restrictions in Florida. In front of a packed auditorium crowd of a few hundred, Florida’s Republican governor laid out what he said are the stakes in November.
“If you care about building a culture of life in this state or this country, them winning in Florida I think really represents the end of the pro-life movement,” DeSantis said.
Amendment 4 would bar lawmakers from banning abortion before a fetus is viable — undoing the current six-week ban on the books. The amendment would also allow for abortions in cases when the mother’s health is threatened “as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.” It needs 60% voter approval to pass.
“If you look at the state of Florida, we do not have a pro-life majority,” DeSantis said, according to the outlet.
“We’ve got a big chunk, but we don’t have a majority. If only people that are pro-life oppose it, it very well might pass,” he added.

“An extremely grave amendment has been placed on the November 2024 ballot that seeks to erase pro-life protections by inserting language into the Florida Constitution prohibiting regulation of abortion. The amendment would allow late-term abortions, including when the baby is capable of feeling pain, and would eliminate laws requiring parental consent and safety protocols for women. The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops is working hard to oppose this dangerous and deceptive amendment and urges all Floridians to vote ‘NO’ on Amendment 4,” the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops said.
“We urge all Floridians of goodwill to stand against the legalization of late-term abortion and oppose the abortion amendment. In doing so, we will not only protect the weakest, most innocent, and defenseless of human life among us but also countless women throughout the state from the harms of abortion,” the bishops of Florida said in their statement on Amendment 4.
'A unified campaign directed at the ballot box in November is gaining momentum, thanks to efforts by Florida’s Catholic bishops to defeat the Amendment 4 abortion initiative. The Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops’ public policy statement calls the amendment “a clear threat…
